Newfoundland Trade, for encouraging, Bill.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act to encourage the Trade to Newfoundland."

ORDERED, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House, presently.

Then the House was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the said Bill.

After some Time, the House was resumed.

And the Earl of Stamford reported, "That the Committee had gone through the said Bill; and think it fit to pass, without any Amendment."

Rock Salt, Duties on, Bill.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for the more full and effectual charging the Duties upon Rock Salt."

ORDERED, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House, presently.

Then the House was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the said Bill.

After some Time, the House was resumed.

And the Earl of Bridgewater reported, "That the Committee had gone through the said Bill; and think it fit to pass, without any Amendment."

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Lowther and others:

To return the Bill, intituled, "An Act to naturalize Richard Legg and others;" and to acquaint this House, that they do not insist upon leaving out the Lords Amendments made to the said Bill.

Doughty versus Cotton:

After hearing Counsel, upon the Petition and Appeal of Philip Doughty Esquire, from several Decrees, Orders, and Proceedings, in the Court of Chancery, on the Behalf of Thomas Cotton Esquire; as also upon the Answers of the said Thomas Cotton and his Wife, and Edward Doughty, put in thereunto; and due Consideration of what was offered thereupon:

Judgement affirmed.

It is ORDERED and Adjudged, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Petition and Appeal of Philip Doughty shall be, and is hereby, dismissed this House; and that the several Decrees, Orders, and Proceedings, complained of in the said Petition, shall be, and they are hereby, affirmed.

Nathaniel Lord Viscount Say and Seale sat first in Parliament, upon the Death of his Father, William Lord Viscount Say and Seale; and took the Oaths, and made and subscribed the Declaration, pursuant to the Statutes.

Messages from H. C. to return the Bill against Housebreakers, &c.; and Sir David Collier et al. Nat. Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Brotherton and others:

To return the Bill, intituled, "An Act for the better apprehending, prosecuting, and punishing of Felons, that commit Burglary, House-breaking, or Robbery, in Shops, Warehouses, Coach-houses, or Stables, or that steal Horses;" and to acquaint this House, that they have agreed to their Lordships Amendments, made to the said Bill.

A Message also was brought from the House of Commons, by the Lord Cornbury and others:

To return the Bill, intituled, "An Act for naturalizing Sir David Collier, Isaac La Melionere, Peter Belcastell, and William Reiatore;" to which they have agreed, with some Amendments, whereunto they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Which, being read Thrice, were agreed to; and ORDERED, That the Commons have Notice thereof.

Commissioners of the Admiralty, Answer to Seamens Petitions.

ORDERED, That the Answers of the Commissioners of the Admiralty to the Petitions sent them, shall be taken into Consideration To-morrow, at Twelve of the Clock.

Message from H. C. with a Bill.

A Message from the House of Commons, by Mr. Cowper and others:

Who brought up a Bill, intituled, "An Act for laying further Duties upon Sweets; and for lessening the Duties, as well upon Vinegar, as upon certain low Wines and Whale Fins, and the Duties upon Brandy imported; and for the more easy raising the Duties upon Leather; and for charging Cinders; and for permitting the Importation of Pearl Ashes; and for preventing Abuses in the brewing of Beer and Ale, and Frauds in Importation of Tobacco;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Message from H. C. for a Conference on the Bill, for Duty on Paper, &c.

Also, a Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Harcourt and others:

To desire a Conference, upon the Subject-matter of the Lords Amendment made to the Bill, intituled, "An Act for laying a Duty upon Paper, Parchment, Vellum, and Pasteboard, for the Purposes therein mentioned."

To which the House agreed.

Answer.

Then the Commons were called in, and told, "That the Lords agree to a Conference, as desired; and appoint it presently, in the Painted Chamber."

These Lords following were appointed Managers:

Conference reported.

The Commons being come to the Conference; the House was adjourned during Pleasure, and the Lords went to the Conference.

Which being ended, the House was resumed.

And the Lord President reported, "That they had attended the Conference, as commanded; and received the Bill: That the Commons do not agree to leave out the Clause at the End of the Bill; and gave their Reasons for it."

Lords insist on their Amendment to the Bill.

The House agreed, to insist on their Amendment.

ORDERED, That the Managers of the Conference do meet To-morrow, and draw Reasons for their insisting; and report to the House.

Adjourn.
