of Mr. Warters, Solicitor to the Admiralty, shewing that the ship
Pearle from France with French wines was seized some time since
in Mounts Bay and is condemned to the Lord High Admiral as a
perquisite of his office : that if sold there [in Cornwall] the wines will
not meet the charges : therefore praying that same may be brought
to London to be sold and the Duties paid when sold. Reference

Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Surveyor General of
Crown Lands for a particular of the premises called the Old Stables
at Windsor in order to a lease thereof to Thomas Moor.
And also for a constat of Datchet Ferry in order to a lease thereof
to said Moor at the nomination of William Hale and John Aldridge,
executors of Daniel Burt, deceased, late ferryman there as in trust
for his son William Burt : "and you are to cause the said executors
of the said Daniel Burt to account with you for the profits of the said
ferry from the time you ordered the same to be put into the possession
of the said Daniel Burt to the date of the intended lease" and the
balance to be paid into the Exchequer after divers allowances
including the bills for ferrying over the Guards.
Prefixing : said Surveyor General's report dated April 7 last.
In accordance with Mr. Lowndes's letter of 16 March 1702-3 directing
me to find a tenant for her Majesty's Old Stables at Windsor I treated
with James Peerman, but Mr. Anthony Row who had the tenancy
of the premises offered the same rate and a lease was ordered to him
but he did not proceed thereon and is since dead. And I was again
directed, verbally, by the Lord Treasurer to find a tenant, but
Peerman offers 30l. less than before because the materials on the
premises were so ruinated and pillaged by the abuse of the poor
people who live there without any title or by the neighbourhood.
So I have treated with Thomas Moor who finding the ground convenient
for a wood yard will embank the same and give the like fine
of 90l. and rent of 4l. per an. for a 50 years' lease.
The ferry at Datchett is very much lessened in the value by the
enlargements and walling in the Little Park at Windsor which cut
off the nearest way from thence to the town. I was orderd to
purchase the same from Col. Wheeler who possessed the same in fee.
The conveyance to the Crown was made 22 July 1700 and in order
to discover the real value thereof I gave my warrant to Daniel Burt,
the ferryman, to continue in possession with a house and small piece
of ground and to give an account of the profits. He swore to the
receipts up to 29 Dec. 1701 but died some time before Dec. 1703
and I have taken the accounts for that period from his books. The
whole profits, after payment of rates and taxes, amount to about
53l. per an. out of which 20l. a year is to be allowed for boats, ropes,
labour and attendance in managing the ferry, leaving a clear yearly
value of 33l. Burt's executors are therefore to give a discharge for
42l. 9s. 2d. for the bills for the Guards within that time and to pay
68l. 9s. 2d. to her Majesty. Warrants not Relating to Money XVIII,

order to a reversionary lease thereof to John Hoskin.
Prefixing : report by the Surveyor General on the petition of John
Hoskin and Henry Chubb ut supra Tr. Cal. XIX, p. 297. The
premises were granted to John Hoskin, the petitioner's father 22
Jan. 1662-3 for the lives of the petitioner and Samuel Hoskyn his
brother : the petitioner aged about 60 is the only life in being, a
lusty man of his age.
In Sir Richard Prideaux' survey the tenement is rated at 29l. per
an. ; and in the Parliamentary Survey at 28l. per an. I advise a
fine of 90l. for 2 fresh lives at the old rent of 2l. 4s. 4d. and for purchasing
off the increased rent of 2l.
The petitioner Chubb prays an allowance, out of the above
proposed fine, of 84l. 13s. 2d. for the balance of his charges in carrying
on a law suit for the Crown as mentioned in the Treasury warrant
of 23 March 1696-7. But such an intercepting of fines will create
an ill precedent. Chubb ought to stay till his own estate comes to

seal to discharge the lands at Tanfield co. Durham, seized into the
hands of the Queen by extent on account of the surety bond of 1300l.
given by Thomas Briggs gent. who with Edward Bodham became
surety in 1694 for Robert Thorowgood, late collector of the port of
Lynn Regis co. Norfolk who died insolvent and in arrear to the
Crown : the said lands having been mortgaged (before the date of
said bond) to Edmund Quash, which mortgage was assigned over
successively to Thomas Sewell and to William Davison and the said
Davison is willing to advance 200l. as composition for said Briggs's
bond in order the better to secure his purchase : the said Bodham
having removed himself and family beyond sea and no estate or
effects of the said Thorowgood being discoverable. The said extent

to pay to the Organists, the Master of the Children of the Chapel
Royal, the Gentlemen of said Chapel, the Serjeant of the Vestry and
John Shore the respective allowances of 6s. a day for the first week
and 3s. a day for the remaining time of their attendance on her
Majesty at Windsor, Hampton Court or elsewhere in any royal
progresses since 1702 June 24 and after the rate of one moiety of the
said allowances to the said Children, organ blower and bell ringer :
the said Gentlemen having by memorial represented that in the reign
of Charles II the Gentlemen of the Chapel [and organists and Master
of the Children] were allowed first 8s. a day for their travelling
charges during the said King's continuance abroad [away from
London] : though they did their duty only on Sundays and holidays
and the eves thereof ; which allowance was afterwards reduced to
6s. a day : and half the said allowance was made to the inferior
officers and Children of the Chapel : which allowance of 6s. and 3s.
was made for the whole time of the late King [William's] stay there
[at Windsor] : and further that they have for 3 summers attended
her Majesty at Windsor but hitherto have received no wages
for the same : and the Deputy Comptroller of the Chamber
has thereon reported that in the present Establishment the rates
are 3s. to the Gentlemen and 2s. to the children each "and that
only to be allowed for one week though our stay be of long
continuance" which cannot as he conceives be a sufficient
recompense for their journeys to and from or constant continuance
