Tr. Cal. XIX, p. 129], without which allowance they cannot
give their agents such perfect bills as will enable them to clear their

probably it may become so in a few years and then the adjoining

undertakes to embank the same from the Humber and to defend

as prize lately seized in the Thames on board the ship
Friendship, he alleging that he is the first informer, whereas Benj.

of Ste. Thompson, of London merchant, shewing that he is indebted
1047l. 7s. 3½d. for Customs but has been forced to withdraw himself

purveyor : therefore praying that same may be paid to him or that

that they have been at great charge in setting out several privateers

Duty : therefore praying an allowance on the Custom of such of the
wines as are but small "with regard to the difference between the
captures made by her Majesty's ships and the petitioners" ; the one
being amply supported by the public whether they take any prize

him by commission dated 1695-6 Jan. 27 as Secretary as aforesaid
at 100l. per an. sterling salary to commence from 1695 March 25
upon which salary he received only 25l. sterling or 32l. 10s.
0d. of money of New York by reason of his being suspended
from the said office 17 Sept. 1696 by Benjamin Fletcher,
then Governor of said Province : it appearing from a report
of the Commissioners of Trade that Livingston continued to
be very serviceable in managing the treaties with the Indians
notwithstanding the said suspension and that they are of
opinion his said suspension did not deprive him from having a
just pretence to his said salary : whereupon the Queen by order in
Council of Jan. 11 last declared that his said suspension should be
taken off and that he should not be deprived of his pretensions to
his salary thereby, which for 6 years 9 months and 73 days to 1701-2
March 8 (being the death of Wm. III) comes to said sum. The said
sum is hereby to be paid out of the surplus of the 30 per cent.

of Charles Congreve, Lieutenant in Capt. James Weems's Company
at New York and Adjutant to the four Independent Companies at
New York, showing that he was sent to England by Visct. Cornbury

public affairs relating to the said Province [to wit] recruits for the
said four Companies, stores for the Garrisons and presents for the
Indians ; and the said Visct. Cornbury the better to enable him to

Mainwaring shewing that by commission from the Prince of Denmark
[as Lord Admiral] in August 1702 he was appointed Agent [for

Perquisites of Admiralty, for which service a considerable sum is

Royal warrant to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland to pay to
Narcissus, Archbishop of Armagh the remainder of the quarter's
rent of that see which became due 1702-3 Feb. 2 amounting to about
530l. (being 825l. rent less 200l. paid to the Blue Coat Hospital of
London and other duties amounting to about 95l.) : the said Archbishop's
patent not bearing date before that date (although directed
by royal letter dated 1702-3 Jan. 26) whereby he is not legally
entitled to said rent, but he has erected a very noble structure for
a public library at a very great expense and proposes to lay out the
said sum and a much greater [one] in furnishing the said library
"which will be of great honour to that our kingdom." Out Letters

Same to same to pay 200l. to Capt. Francis Neville, who was
employed the last Session of Parliament by the House of Commons,
Ireland, in a survey for the making a canal from Lough Neagh to
Newry in the north part of Ireland, then proposed for a public
advantage : which service he performed but the charge being computed
at near 20,000l. the said House found themselves not in a
condition to proceed further upon it ; but have made an address
that Neville should be paid 200l. for his trouble and charge therein.
