Mr. Creamer [Thomas Cremer] now in Mr. Cook's office [Thomas
Coke, one of the four Tellers of the Receipt] is to be Examiner of the
Vouchers [Inspector of the cash and vouchers of the Tellers of the
Receipt] in the place of Mr. Creamer deceased : but he is to quit his
place under the Teller.
[My Lord directs] 4000l. to be issued [to the Paymaster of the
Forces] for Monsieur de Machado, to complete his warrant : to be
issued out of Prize money in the Exchequer.
[My Lord directs the issue to William Lowndes of] 1500l. for
secret service.

On Tuesday morning my Lord will hear Major General Cholmley
and Mr. Johnson about the forfeited estate of Sir Roger S[trickland].
The [Principal] Officers of the Ordnance are called in. [My Lord
Treasurer ordered the issue of] 20,000l. for sea service and 20,000l.
for land service of their Office : to be issued out of the money arisen
and to arise in the Exchequer out of Malt Duty anno 1704 [2-3 Anne
c. 2] to wit over and above so much as hath discharged and is
sufficient to discharge all the loans and interest thereupon. Ibid.,

Upon Mr. How's memorial of this day, he attending, my Lord
ordered that 23,928l. 12s. 9¾d. is to be issued [to him for Guards and
Garrisons] out of Contributions for annuities.
[The draft of a] letter to Mr. [John] Methuen [Ambassador Extraordinary
to Portugal] to pay 1855 dollars to Mr. [Joseph] Boit for
lead [which he supplied to the Prince of Hesse Darmstadt at Gibraltar
when the garrison was in extreme want of lead] is read and approved.
Stay the process against Lord William Paulet for the rent of
Greenwax money till the end of next Hilary term.
Sir Thomas Powys [appearing] for Col. Cholmley, and Mr. Tompson
[appearing] for Mr. Johnson are called in. Mr. Tompson desires
time and alleged that Mr. Johnson has been at charge in suits about
Sir Roger Strickland's estate. Sir Thomas Powys says Mr. Johnson's
pretensions are sufficiently satisfied by the grant he has already.
My Lord [Treasurer informs them] he will lay the matter before

Mr. Coupland and Mr. Burton are called in. Mr. Coupland will
prepare the ledger [containing the accounts of the Navy Treasurership]
of my Lord Falkland for 3 years and make despatch in it.
My Lord agrees that he shall be rewarded for his pains.
Mr. Burton presents a paper how the accounts of Lord Falkland
do stand and promises to assist Mr. Coupland.
The Salt Commissioners are called in. My Lord asks them how
the Salt revenue comes to be decreased this year. They [promise
him] they will send states of the gross produce of the 2 several years
ending at Michaelmas 1704 and 1705.
The Attorney General comes in. Refer to him the petition of
Saladin [see footnote infra p. 39].
[Send word] to the Agents [for Taxes] to be here on Friday morning
about the commission for [inquiry in] Devonshire.
[My Lord directs the] issue of 4200l. to the Treasurer of the Navy
whereof 2850l. out of loans in the Exchequer on Low Wines anno
1705 [3-4 Anne c. 18], 830l. out of loans there on the Two Thirds
Subsidy [3-4 Anne c. 3] and 520l. out of such further loans as shall
be made on [either of] those respective Duties. The said sum is to
be paid over to the Treasurer for Sick and Wounded and three fifths
thereof is to be placed to the head of Wages and two fifths to the head

Mr. Serjeant Cheshire appears for Rowland Gwynne. Mr. Cheshire
says the dispute is only about a tenement called Coed Madock: that
they [his clients] have had 60 years' quiet possession and have
justified their title upon several trials and that they hold under a
fee farm grant of 12 James I by the name of the Township of
Ethiniock [Festiniog]. They [undertake to my Lord that they] will
attend the Attorney General and shew their title and he is to make
report to my Lord of the whole matter with his opinion.
[My Lord directs] 1103l. 6s. 3¾d. to be issued for Windsor Works
for January and February 1704 and March 1704-5.
Upon Mr. How's memorial of this day [my Lord directs the] issue
of 11,402l. 10s. 4d. [to said How as Paymaster of Guards and
Garrisons] for 28 days to Nov. 21 next for subsistence to the Troops
and Regiments in England ; and 2213l. 15s. 0d. for subsistence for
same time to the [sea service] Regiments of Hotham, Breton and
Soams.
The restitution of temporalities to the bishop of Lincoln is to date

The Bank having lent 50,000l. on credit of repayment on the Malt
Duty anno 1705 [3-4 Anne c. 17] my Lord resolves that in case the
said fund shall not have satisfied or paid off the said principal sum
of 50,000l. together with 6 per cent. interest thereon by Michaelmas
1706 so much as shall be unpaid thereof at that time shall be made
