Aug. 11. Henry Guy to the Auditor of the Receipt to issue 300l. to Tho. Neale, Groom Porter, out of such moneys as shall be brought into the Exchequer of the Tenths of the Clergy by the collector of the dioceses of Winchester and Lincoln. Disposition Book I, p. 67.
Same to Mr. [Thomas] Browne of the Excise Office to forthwith receive from Alderman Backwell such money as is now due to you for interest of the principal money he owes you and to pay the same (together with what interest you have already received from him for the said money) into the Exchequer in part of what you owe upon your account of Hearthmoney. Aug. 13. Same to Mr. Langley. On your desire therefor it is the pleasure of the Treasury Lords that a reward is to be given to the discoverers of the estates of Popish Recusants proportionable to the discovery after it is fully made out by law, but their Lordships do not intend them any gratuity till the King's title be so made out. Treasury warrant to the Customs Commissioners to employ Lawrence Cole, gent., to reside in the Island of Jersey to sign and seal certificates of the landing of commodities [which certificates are] to be returned hither [to London] for the discharge of the securities here given, and further to perform such other matters as are directed by an order of Council of 1679, Dec. 17, upon a report made to the King in Council by the Lords of the Committee for the affairs of Jersey: the Treasury Lords having selected said Cole and the King having approved of him by order in Council of the 4th inst. Henry Guy to the Auditor of the Receipt to issue the Coinage money in the Exchequer to the Mint Commissioners. Further, to reserve and not to issue, without further directions, the money that is in or shall come into the Exchequer from seizures or forfeited goods (which has usually been issued to the use of the Privy Purse). Same to Mr. Brisban. The Navy Board have informed the Treasury Lords that order is given for paying off several ships the computations for which amount to a considerable sum. The Treasury Lords have appointed a meeting [hereon] at the Treasury Chambers on Wednesday next and desire the Admiralty Lords to be present. Inform the said Lords hereof. Ibid.
Henry Guy to Mr. Lytcot [Comptroller of Accounts of Customs] to finish the weekly certificate of the Receiver and Paymaster of the Customs with Mr. Kent so that it may come to the Treasury Lords every Tuesday morning. Out Letters. (General.) VI, p. 72.
Treasury reference to the Customs Commissioners of Thomas Miller's petition for leave to send a deputy to Carolina and for money to defray his passage thither and for money for Miller's own support here: the proposed deputy being one of the witnesses for the King against Culpepper. Reference Book I, p. 134.
Treasury warrant to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands for a particular of certain waste and sandy grounds lying betwixt high and low water mark near Holy Island in the bishopric of Durham, of which Capt. Thomas Paulden prays a fresh lease for 99 years on surrender of his present lease for 31 years granted in 26 Car. II. Ibid, pp. 135–6.
Prefixing: (a) said Paulden's petition for same. Said former lease dated 1674, Aug. 17, was granted with reservation of a rent of 3s. per an. and a fourth part of what should be recovered thereof (which said fourth part was subsequently granted to Martin Lister in trust for said Paulden, and with reserve of 10l. per an. rent therefor to the King): said lease being on condition that petitioner should, at his own costs, embank and secure the same from the sea, he having by a commission of enquiry directed out of the Exchequer (14 May, 1661), found the King's title thereto and the butts and bounds of the same, containing about 1,500 acres and having this last year embanked 500 acres thereof. Prays a grant for 99 years in view of his excessive charges and little likelihood of immediate profit. (b) Reference dated 1679, Dec. 20, from the King to the Treasury Lords thereon. (c) Treasury reference dated 1679–80, Feb. 19, to the Surveyor General. thereon. (d) Report dated May 26 from William Harbord, Surveyor General., hereon.
Constitution and appointment by the Treasury Lords of Sampson Shackerly to be one of the 4 supervisors of the tin blowing houses: John Eatcher [sic for Catcher], late supervisor of all the tin blowing houses in Cornwall and Devon, being lately deceased, and it being the King's pleasure that henceforth said office shall be exercised by 4 supervisors to attend and survey and take care of the particular blowing houses, ut infra, p. 681, under date Aug. 31. to hold said office during pleasure and with full power to make seizures of tin in the said parishes and in any other places whatsoever seizable under the Stannary laws. Treasury warrant to the Clerk of the Pipe to prepare a writing of assignment to grant and assign to Sarah Hawkes, relict of John Hawkes, the messuage or tenement in Dorset Yard near Channon Row, ut supra, p. 669; except so much of the yard, parcel of the said land, as abuts north on the palings of the mansion houses of Robert Hill and Thomas Morris: all, namely, for the unexpired term vesting in the King by the death of said John Hawkes as an alien. Prefixing: (a) particular and memorandum of the premises, as found by an inquisition taken at the sign of the ship in Channon Row, 10 July last; (b) entry of [the Treasury Lords' signature of] the demise of said messuage accordingly.

Same to Mr. Rives. I have represented to the Treasury Lords your occasions [need] for the Wine Licence money the month past. My Lords have directed the issuing of that money out of the Exchequer to several persons for very necessary occasions whereby they cannot comply with you at this time. Aug. 18. Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant to Sir James Bradshaw of all lands and goods which, by an inquisition taken at Gloverstone, co. Chester, May 20 last, were found forfeited to the King by the attainder of Edward Bradshaw, gent., lately convicted of felony and murder: to hold for the natural life of said Edward or for such term of years as by the said inquisition is found to be vested in the Crown. Aug. 18. Henry Guy to the Customs Commissioners to deliver to the Duchess of Mazarin parcels of Flanders lace sent as a present to her from the Countess of Soissons by Aimy Parry, a servant of Prince Philip, and taken from said servant by a Customs officer at Rochester. Appending: said Duchess's memorial and note of said lace.

Same to same. A moiety of the sums which in the following list were entirely paid to Thomas Miller were intended, by the Treasury Lords, for Henry Hudgson and should have been paid to him accordingly by said Miller. Ibid.

Prefixing: said petition, shewing that her husband George Caunt and his partner Richard Brown, both deceased, sub-farmers [of Excise] for the district of Norwich, were to have allowance from the head farmers [of Excise for co. Norfolk], and the latter again the like from the King, for losses by the plague "and her said husband proving in due form that at Norwich. Yarmouth and parts adjacent [such losses amounted to] 1,800l. the whereby Sir Sam. Sterling and partners insisting on the same, who were the head farmers, obtained from the late" Treasury Lords a promise of a defalcation of 598l. due then in the Excise Office to balance [said Farmers' account]. Petitioner can prove that her husband and his partner paid the full rent [of their sub-farm to said head farmers]. Therefore prays an order for the said allowance.
Aug. 19. Treasury warrant to the Customs Commissioners to employ Robert Mason as waiter and searcher at Hull loco John Scott, lately deceased. Out Letters (Customs), p. 258.
Aug. 20. Money order for 7,300l. to Richard Kent and Charles Duncombe in repayment of so much by them lent into the Exchequer this day: together with 6 per cent. interest and 4 per cent. reward. Order Book XXXVIII, p. 162.
