method heretofore used for providing jewels by [warrant of] the
Chamberlain of the Household be observed for the future and that
the royal warrant of 1698 July 18 be hereby revoked; which said
warrant directed that in order to the keeping of a more regular
account of the Jewels all such Jewels as were to be provided for the
King or as presents for Ambassadors &c. should be provided by the
Master of the Jewel House under warrant of the said Chamberlain
or Vice Chamberlain of the Household when approved by the
Treasury Lords; but it has been represented by Edward, Earl of
Jersey, Lord Chamberlain of the Household that by the ancient
constitution of the Household the Chamberlain has the sole care
and direction of all such presents and that there was always regular
accounts kept of all such jewels in the books of the Chamberlain's
Office and that since the Foreign ministers are still to apply to the
Chamberlain as well for their presents as for redress in case they
shall be ill served he thinks the restoring the former method will be
more for the King's service because the Chamberlain will have thereby
a more immediate authority over the [King's] Jeweller to see all

dressed flax called Snowlings which the English have bought and
sent from Holland to the Canaries, but last year it happened that
the importation of flax was greater into England than into Holland
and petitioner prepared about five tons of dressed flax for the
Canaries out of a greater quantity of rough flax duly entered inwards
here; and the Customs Commissioners being of opinion that the
dressing of the flax was not such an alteration of the nature or
quality as might reasonably hinder the benefit of the drawback.
