Same to the Navy Commissioners. The late Visct. Falkland's
final account as Treasurer of the Navy was delivered to the Auditors
of Imprests 3 years since in Sept. 1698 and returned to you to adjust
and sign the voluntary charge but has not yet been returned to them.

this happened and how all the accounts of former Navy Treasurers

inform my Lords that small progress is made towards finishing the
accounts lying in your office. They are also informed that you have
not the number of clerks for which the King makes you allowance
and the clerks you have do not receive the salaries for their
encouragement which were made by Mr. Ashmole. Unless you make
speedy redress my Lords will represent this to the King. Ibid. |

Same to same. I have yours from Loo of the 9/20th August last
conveying the King's instructions that the Customs officers' share of
the seizure of French wines lately imported under the name of
Spanish wines from Biscay be reserved and not paid into the
Exchequer. In this case the composition with the merchants has
only been made for 11 ships and there were no real informers but
a person set up for the King to try the title to the forfeiture. On being
admitted to compound in the Exchequer the merchants paid twothirds the Spanish Duties and the Receiver General of Customs
forthwith paid same into the Exchequer and it was issued upon the
funds to which those Duties are appropriated. The residue under
the title of Compositions on Seizures is appropriated by Act of
Parliament to the Civil List. Ibid. |

Treasury approval of the Stamps Commissioners' schedule,
detailed, of the prices to be paid for stamped parchment and paper
for the year 1700; the wholesale and retail prices thereof being found
on enquiry to be at present (and like to continue) at the same rates
as they were sold for the year past and the stationers being willing
to serve the office upon the same terms and no other than they did
