The Treasury Lords to the Earl of Bellomont. We have had under consideration the account of Chidley Brook, Collector and Receiver General of his Majesty's revenues in New York, for the several revenues and profits arising within that Province by Customs of imports and exports of goods carried up Hudson's River, by Excise, Duty on goods weighed at the King's beam, revenue of quit rents, fines and forfeitures accruing to the King and for the several Aids from the adjacent Colonies for securing the frontiers of that Province [to wit all] from 1690–1 Jan. 30 to 1698 June 7: as also the account of the said Chidley Brook for the several taxes raised by public rates in the Province of New York within same time and of the Additional Duty upon goods imported there raised by divers Acts of Assembly for payment of the debts contracted by the Government and other uses as in the said Acts between 1693 Nov. 23 and 1698 May 18. We have referred said accounts to you, to the end the accountant may be more strictly charged with the various sums and discharged by the various vouchers. Treasury warrant to the Customs Commissioners to order the officers on the coast of Kent and Sussex to observe the orders of Henry Baker in using the Dragoons to prevent the exportation of wool and importation of silks. Money warrant dormant for 150l. per an. to the Auditor of the Receipt for the service and pains of himself and clerks in and about the keeping of the register of the annuities under the Act of 5 and 6 Wm. III, c. 20: the said yearly sum having been directed by Treasury warrant of 1694 July 27 but the fund provided for by said Act not having produced any surplus out of which the said fee could be paid. Treasury warrant to Edward Nicholas, Receiver of the profits of the Alienation Office, to pay out of the surplusage of your Office, 30l. to Nicholas Whitaker, your deputy, being so much which he advanced upon bond to Edward Courthop Esq. deceased, late one of the Commissioners of the Alienation Office, as part of his salary at the beginning of Trinity term 1688 and which was to be deducted at the end of said term: it appearing that the said Courthop did often upon his pressing occasions anticipate his salary by borrowing money of the said Whitaker. William Lowndes to the Earl of Ranelagh to charge 6l. 10s. 0d. upon the pay of each Company of the 14 Battalions to which 1917 recruits were transported from Scotland in the year 1696: there being due to Col. George Hamilton for the costs of said transportation the sum of 902l. (over and above what he has already received on that account) being at the usual allowance of 20s. a man. The said 6l. 10s. 0d. per company will amount to 1118l. and the overplus thereof over the said 902l. is to go towards the relief of said colonel for the inconvenience which will attend the uncertainty and delay of such payment. Royal warrant, "given at our Court at Dieren" to the Clerk of the Signet for a privy seal to authorise Charles Bertie, late Treasurer and Paymaster of the Ordnance, to pay to Harry Mordaunt, his successor in said office the several sums of money, tallies, orders and Malt Lottery tickets in his hands as at June 30 last amounting in all to 113,086l. 17s. 7¼d.: being moneys for which he is charged for the service of the Ordnance: and thereupon to discharge Bertie and to charge Mordaunt for same.

Taylour (in the absence of William Lowndes) to the Auditor of the Receipt to issue to Lionell Herne on the unsatisfied order in his name the 17,367l. 3s. 5d. remaining in the Exchequer on the second 3s. July 31. William Lowndes to the Surveyor General. My Lords have considered your report on Lieut.-Col. Andrew Wheeler's petition concerning his interest in the ferry or passage boat over the Thames from Datchet to Windsor Palace ut supra p. 359. As the way to the said ferry is to be turned and the petitioner's damage cannot presently be ascertained it may be for the King's service to buy for 1200l. the inheritance thereof together with the messuage, croft and three acres thereto belonging.
