Mar. 5. Reference by Treasurer Rochester to Mr. Hewer of the petition of Sir John Mordant, shewing that he brought two actions at Tangier against one Edward Roth and James Gorman and thereon recovered 900l. due to him from Major Fitzgerald, deceased, for money furnished to his soldiers at Tangier, the said Roth and Gormon having siezed upon said Fitzgerald's estate: as the money due to said Roth and Gorman is stopped in said Hewer's hands, prays an order to Hewer to pay same to petitioner in part of his debts. Mar. 6. Same by same to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of Robert Levintz for renewal of his patent as searcher of Lyme Regis granted him about four years since. Ibid, p. 82.
Same by same to same of the petition of John Brett and John Waring for payment of 16l. 13s. 4d. for five years to 1684, Michaelmas, on their patent fee of 3l. 6s. 8d. per an. as searchers of Chester, "one of them being now come up to deliver in their port books which is a great charge to them." Ibid, p. 94.
Report to the King from same on the petition of John and Henry Portlocke as by the reference of Feb. 24 last from the King for pardon, they having 15 years since seen Henry Elliot clip the King's coin and concealed the fact. Petitioners were impeached before Abjohn Stoakes, a Justice of Peace for co. Wilts, by said Elliot who is since dead. Petitioners are old men. Warrants not Relating to Money XI, p. 7.
