of the petition of the Governor and Fellowship
of English Merchants for the Discovery of
New Trades, commonly called the Muscovia
Company; shewing that in this present [year's]
voyage from Archangel they imported 40 tons of
seal oil, not in the least imagining that more than
6s. per ton duty would be demanded thereon
according to the directions given [successively] by
Treasurer Southampton, Treasurer Danby and the
late Treasury Lords as confirmed by an order of the
King in Council dated 1681, Dec. 21: yet notwithstanding, the Customs Commissioners demand the
high duty of 9l. per ton, alleging that the said orders
are void by the death of Charles II. Therefore pray
a renewal of said order, so that they may take up
their oil in the same manner they have done for
many years past by virtue thereof. |
