Royal warrant to the Attorney General for a great seal directed
to Sir Charles Meredith, Kt., Chancellor of the Court of
Exchequer, Ireland ; Sir James Cuff, Kt. ; John Stone, Robert
Wood, Doctor of Laws ; and Thomas Taylor, and to Robert
Gorges, Doctor of Laws ; Thomas Sheredon, William Hanway,
Edward Wigg, Thomas Waller, and Mortagh Dowling.
Recites the royal warrant for a grant of the farm of the revenue
of Ireland to Sir James Shaen, Sir William Petty, William Hill,
William Rider, Robert Gorges, Tho. Hoare, Francis Sone,
William Muschamp, Edward Richbel, Stanhop Mill and Lawrence
Stanyan and William Hanway for seven years from Xmas
next ut supra, pp. 823, 853. "And whereas our said revenue of
Ireland, but more especially such parts or branches thereof as
arise by licence for selling of wines, aquavit, strong waters,
ale and beer, and also by firehearths, stoves and other firing
places, and also by customs and subsidies of tonnage and poundage,
and likewise by Excise or new Impost, as well imported
as exported, may be subject unto irrecoverable loss and damage
for want of fit persons to look after and manage the same,"
and forasmuch as the abovesaid grant cannot be so speedily
despatched as is requisite, therefore said Farmers have prayed
a commission to fit persons to manage the said branches (without
any increase of charge to the Crown), to continue in force
during pleasure, and that 20,000l. part of the 60,000l to be
advanced by them, should be paid down presently after the
King's signing the warrant containing the substantial and
essential parts of the said intended grant (same being [now] perfected)
and 10,000l. more on the 26th inst., as well to secure the
payment of the rent of the said farm as that said Farmers will
go through with their contract without unnecessary delay or
default. This is therefore to commission the said Sir Charles
Meredith et al. ut supra to be such Commissioners from Dec.
25 next for the above recited branches of revenue and all quit
rents and other rents, rates, duties and other revenues, certain
and casual, whatever, except as excepted in the warrant for the
afore recited farm : with all powers requisite thereto for
collecting same, appointing officers, &c., &c. You are forthwith
to begin all things preparatory to the discharge of the trust
hereby committed to you and to fully enter on your powers from
said Dec. 25 next. The charge of the officers you appoint is
to be borne by said Farmers and you are to answer your
receipts to their Chief Treasurer or Receiver, who is to be
appointed by them and approved by the Lord Lieutenant,
taking care that such moneys as you pay to the said Receiver
shall within ten days of their coming into his hands be paid
into the Receipt of the Exchequer, Ireland, to secure the rent
of the farm "in case the said intended grant shall pass, and
in case it doth not pass [then] for securing unto us our said
revenue" The said Treasurer to give security so to do. Since
the signing of the said warrant said Farmers have paid 20,000l.
of their advance and have promised to pay 10,000l. more on
the 26th inst. Therefore acquittances for both these sums are
to be prepared. "And we hereby declare and agree for us,
our heirs and successors" that if by default on our part the
said intended farm be not passed under the Great Seal by the
20th Jan. next, according to the purport of the said warrant,
"then we, our heirs or successors will repay and satisfy to the
said intended Farmers or their assigns so much of the said
60,000l. as shall have been before that time paid unto us, or
unto our use, with interest and damages." If it be so not
passed by default on the part of the Farmers then such advance
money as above will be repaid, but without interest or allowance
for the same. You, the said Commissioners, are to keep
an office in Dublin at the charge of said Farmers, who are to
have access to all your books, &c.

seal of 1673-4, Feb. 28, you are appointed to receive a certain
rent of 296l. 19s. 4d. reserved nomine decim and payable by
the Dean and Chapter of Westminster : same being to be
issued for the service of the parks and bridges at Hampton
Court. Pursuant to said privy seal I have formerly directed
payment of 6l. 13s. 4d. per an., out of said rent, to Edward
Proger, Keeper of the Middle Park there, for a mole keeper
in said park. "But by reason there is no provision made for
a mole taker in His Majesty's park there, called Bushey Park,
which adjoineth to the said Middle Park, the moles breeding

per an. rent, and that several other parcels of ground within
the Honor of Penrith, co. Cumberland, were demised by same

lives. Both these leases have been purchased by petitioner,
and the premises are now in jointure to the Queen Consort, who
has power during her life to grant estates therein for 31 years

64l. 8s. 0d. per an. above the said rents, but in the case of the
latter items this valuation is 10l. per an. more than they are
now let for. An estate of 31 years in the premises in reversion

which fine one moiety was discharged by warrant of the late
Queen Mother ; the same Dame Mary Killegrew alleging in her
petition that said Queen Mother did, before her death,
condescend to remit the other moiety also in consideration of
said petitioner's many years' service, and so commanded Sir
Robert Long, who oftentimes assured petitioner that said
obligation should be discharged, which for many years she and
her husband believed had been accordingly done : the present
grant being to make good the favour so intended ("or at least
to confer a mark of our grace and favour to the said Sir
William Killegrew and Dame Mary, his wife"). (Treasurer

[Fresh] privy seal for 500l. to Captain Phillip Howard out
of the arrears of 3,235l. 5s. 6d. owing to the King from
Benj. Laney, bishop of Lincoln, on the account of the two
first of the four subsidies ut supra, p. 857 : present grant to
be as royal bounty in consideration of said Howard's loyalty
and services, and to be paid after 1,000l. to Lord Hawley and
1,000l. to Edward Watts have been paid out of said arrears.
If upon a true statement of account said arrear prove to be
more than 200l. [sic for 2,000l.] and less than 2,500l. then so
much of said arrear as remains after satisfaction of said 2,000l.
is hereby granted to said Howard, with power to recover same
or to receive same out of the Exchequer in case it be paid in
