Corporations, &c. There were formerly sent you several
printed copies of the Act for impositions on law proceedings,
together with an order and resolution of the late Lord Keeper
and divers of the Judges and others concerning the suppressing
of unlicensed alehouses, which said order directed that persons
licensed might duly enter into recognizances, and that such
recognizances should be certified and remain of record in the
Court of Quarter Sessions as is directed by the statute of
5 and 6 Ed. VI. By a letter from the late Treasury Lords,
dated 1671, June 22, it was specially recommended to your
care to put the said order in execution. His Majesty has let
to farm the said duties to Peter Calverd, Samuel Vincent et al.
In order that all due countenance may be given to them in
collecting and receiving said duty, you are at the General
Quarter Sessions hereafter to be holden next after Epiphany
in every year to give notice to the said persons of the days and
places you shall appoint for meetings for granting licences to
alehouse keepers to the end the duty of 2s. 6d. may be duly
collected and paid to the said Farmers or their agents. I
especially recommend to your care the full and effectual
execution hereof as also the suppressing of all unlicensed
alehouses, assuring you that your care herein will be very
acceptable to His Majesty.

Farmers of Excise of Lancs, have complained of an order by
you made at your sessions directing every gauger, immediately
after making his gauge at every alehouse keeper's house, to
leave a copy of said gauge of every respective brewing with
such alehouse keeper. Such order is against the letter of the
law. For the Act directs the copy of the gauge to be delivered
after the entry made by the alehouse keeper. This proceeding
of yours is of a dangerous nature to the Excise revenue,
which I give you notice of before representing the matter to
the King in Council. I desire you, therefore, at the next
Sessions of the peace for the county to make void said
order.

you will find that the time for an appellant to enter an appeal
is limited, and Long has not so entered it. Take the matter
into your consideration and end it so as to save the trouble of
a journey hither.

a lease of certain lands in the manor of East Dereham,
co. Norfolk, and was to pay a fine of 30l. for same : but that
the lease was not executed by reason of the suddenness of the
said Queen's death, and it was accordingly not put into the
schedule of lease, which by the King's letters patent of 1670,
July 15, you are authorised to perfect and execute, and the
same land was afterwards, by warrant from the Treasury,
granted to Mary Palmer for two lives, she being the present
tenant. You are hereby to find out some other lands to the
like value and to demise same to said Marbury.

Geo. Kennicot et al. owners of the ship "Peter." lately
seized at Dartmouth for landing tobacco from Virginia, have
declared in their petition that they let the said ship to freight

England, thence to Rotterdam. In his return journey, for fear
of enemies and by extreme foul weather, he was forced into
Limerick, where his cargo was discharged without the privity
or consent of the owners, the officers of the ship intending
only to sell some of the cargo to buy provisions with : as
appears by the oath of John Sweet, master, Henry Golding,
master's mate, and John Skynner, boatswain. You are to
discharge said ship and [cease] the prosecution thereon.
