March 1 Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to the Auditor of the Receipt to pay 500l. to Captain Sheldon's Company at Guernsey, "which service being instant and pressing cannot admitt the time for the obteyning of a Privy Seal ... And I will speedily procure a Privy Seal to be passed for the same for the regular and due authorising the payment thereof and [will] send in money for supply of what money you take from any assignment if you satisfie it out of any assigned money, which you must doe, there being no other as I suppose." March 1 Money warrant for 500l. to Lady Lingen, widow of Sir Henry Lingen, as royal bounty. "With the first conveniency possible pay her 200l." Early Entry Book V. p. 296.
Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to Thomas Bigg, sheriff of Kent, to pay 60l. to Christopher Dering. Clerk of the Peace for said county for promoting the hearth money revenue. Ibid, p. 297.
Royal warrant to Treasurer Southampton to pay to the Master and Worker of the Mint 2,808l. 9s. 8½d. to be paid by Sir William Parkhurst, Warden of the Mint, to the several artificers of the Mint for repairs done there, including 300l. due to John and Joseph Roettiers, Chief Gravers of the Mint, for the original and master puncheons, counterpunches and matrices for coining in the new way by the mill and press. March 3 Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to the Customs Farmers to pay 45l. 12s. 0d. to Viscount Fanshaw, King's Remembrancer, for the fees usually paid to him by the Customers of the outports for passing their accompts, viz. for the year 1664; and a further 233l. 0s. 2d. and 21l. 12s. 8d. to same for parchment. &c. detailed, for the Customs books for the outports and London port respectively. March 7 Same from same to Frances Stephens, Sergeant at Arms, to arrest Gifford Bale: it appearing by a certificate from the Grand Commissioners of Excise that John Windham, late Farmer of Excise in co. Somerset, had by collateral agreement taken into the said farm the said Gifford Bale who was also constituted a Sub-Commissioner, and upon the matter managed the whole affair in that county and received the most part of the moneys which should have answered the rent due to the King, which is in arrear about 1,500l. Same for 150l. to Col. Legg, Lieutenant of the Ordnance, towards the repairs of St. Mawes Castle, co. Cornwall, on the petition of Sir Richard Vivian, Governor of said castle, showing that said castle (being of special use for defence of the harbour of Falmouth), with the blockhouse, bulwarks and platforms are much decayed, and that until said platforms are repaired no guns can be fired on any occasion. Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to the Clerk of the Signet, for a Privy Seal, in terms prefixed, for 2,000l. to Sir James Thynn who in 1643. May 17. became bound for the late King at Oxford with Sir Edward Hide, now Earl of Clarendon, in 4,000l. for payment of 2,000l. to Henry late Earl of Danby; in which bond Sir Christopher (now Lord) Hatton and Sir William Walter were nominated to be bound, but never sealed the same, the violence of those times causing them of a sudden to quit the town, which likewise was the cause that the said bond was not inserted in the schedule of debts for which the late King gave counter security in certain lands, &c.: the said Sir James Thynne having been further arrested on the said bond in 1653, and obliged to pay the said 2,000l. Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to Francis Stevens, Sergeant at Arms, to arrest William Dawgs to answer a debt of 1,200l. and upwards owing to the King by said Dawgs and his partner, late Farmer of Excise in co. Lincoln; the said Dawgs hiding himself in close places so that the usual process of law cannot be served upon him. Ibid, p. 145.
March 15 Same from same to the Auditor and Receiver of Crown revenues for co. Middlesex, to pay 18l. to Nathaniell Hardy, D. D., Vicar of St. Martin's in the Fields, for four years to Xmas last for the tithe due to the Vicarage of St. Martin's in the Fields from the ground lately taken into His Majesty's physic garden in said parish and the close adjoining called Lower Crowfield, containing about 27 acres. March 15 Money warrant, dormant, for the allowance of 800l. per an. to Sir Allen Apsley for the charge of falconers and hawks of all sorts: to be paid out of the Exchequer instead of out of the Crown revenues in co. Lincoln (as ordered by the Privy Seal of 1663 March 25), which latter revenue will not Fear the payment of said sum: all as by the Privy Seal of Feb. 10 last. Early Entry Book V. p. 304.
Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to the Auditor of Imprests to allow in the accounts of Hugh May, Paymaster of the Works, 94l. 1s. 3d., being interest on various sums, detailed, amounting to 2,800l., advanced in 1664, by Edw. Backwell to said May upon the security of tallies struck upon the Customs for the months of September and October, 1664. Ibid. p. 334.

March 23 The memorial of the 8th inst. from the Commissioners for Arrears of Excise. read and entered, concerning the arrear of 294l. 17s. 1d. standing out at 1660. Dec. 25, on John Moll, Francis Goodwyn, Richard Butts, and William Stockton, late Sub-Commissioners for Excise in co.
