Paving Streets, &c. Bill.

Hodie 3^a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for paving and cleansing the Streets in the City of London and Westm. and Suburbs and Liberties thereof and Out Parishes in the County of Midd's, and in the Borough of Southwarke, and other Places within the Weekly Bills of Mortality in the County of Surrey, and for regulating the Markets therein mentioned."

A Proviso was offered, for paving of St. John Streete.

Which was read Three Times, and agreed to.

ORDERED, That the said Proviso be Part of the said Bill.

The Question was put, "Whether this Bill shall pass (with this Proviso and Amendment) into a Law?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Quakers scruples in Swearing, Bill concerning.

Hodie 3^a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act to prevent Obstructions of Justice and other Inconveniencies, occasioned by many Protestant Subjects scrupling to swear in the Form and Manner now used."

The Question was put, "Whether this Bill shall pass into a Law?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Message to H. C. with it; and with the Bill for paving Streets, &c.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons by Sir Miles Cooke and Mr. Keck:

To carry down the Bill, intituled, "An Act for paving and cleansing the Streets in the City of London and Westm. and Suburbs and Liberties thereof, and Out Parishes in the County of Midd'x and in the Borough of Southwarke, and other Places within the Weekly Bills of Mortality in the County of Surrey, and for regulating the Markets therein mentioned;" and to let them know, they have passed the said Bill with a Proviso and Amendment, and to desire their Concurrence thereto.

And also to carry down the Bill, intituled, "An Act to prevent Obstructions of Justice and other Inconveniencies, occasioned by many Protestant Subjects scrupling to swear in the Form and Manner now used;" and to desire their Concurrence thereunto.

ORDERED, That the Earl of Rochester be added to the Committee for the Bill concerning the Orphans.

ORDERED, That the Lord Rockingham be added to the Committee for Privileges.

Alstone attached, for a Libel against L. Lovelace.

Upon Oath made at the Bar of this House, "That Samuell Alstone hath owned the publishing of a printed Paper, being a scandalous Libel upon the Right Honourable John Lord Lovelace, a Peer of this Realm, contrary to the Privilege of Parliament:"

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod do forthwith attach the Body of the said Samuell Alstone, and bring him in safe Custody to Bar of this House, to answer for his said Offence; and this shall be a sufficient Warrant on that Behalf.

To Sir Thomas Duppa, Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod, his Deputy and Deputies, and every of them.

Complaint against Middleton, for endeavouring to convey away his Daughter, contracted in Marriage with Cox.

Upon reading the Petition of Nathaniell Cox; shewing, "That he is firmly contracted to Winfrid Middleton, Daughter of John Midelton Gentleman; and that he is informed, that, to prevent the said Contract, and comply with the Obligation of Justice and Conscience, the Father intends to convey her away, or transport her, or put her in a Nunnery; and prays that the House will interpose, and by some Means prevent the Transportation:"

After having heard Mr. Cox at the Bar, who informed the House who are the Persons that acquainted him with it, the House made the following Order:

"ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That Mrs. Anne Burkett, Margarett Clarke, and Mrs. Madox, do attend this House presently."

Salmon versus Hampton & al.

Whereas this Day was appointed for hearing Errors argued, upon the Writ of Error depending in this House, wherein John Salmon Lessee of Robert Owen and Hannah his Wife, and Ellin Lewis, is Plaintiff, and Anne Hampton, alias Lewis, and others Defendants; upon reading this Day the Petition of the said John Salmon praying another Day for hearing thereof; and upon hearing the Counsel for the Defendants, who was ready to defend the Errors for the Defendants:

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will hear the said Errors argued, by Counsel on both Sides, at the Bar, on Wednesday next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon: And it is further ORDERED, That the said John Salmon, Robert Owen Clerk, Hanna his Wife, and Ellin Lewis, do pay, or cause to be paid, unto the said Anne Hampton, alias Lewis, the Sum of Ten Pounds of good and lawful Money of England, for her Costs and Charges in attending with her Counsel this Day at the Bar of this House.

Judges to attend.

ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That all the Judges do attend this House on Wednesday next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon.

Burrows discharged.

Upon reading the humble Petition of Thomas Burrows; shewing, "That he being in Custody for a Contempt of this Honourable House, which was committed by him through Ignorance, and for which he is very sorry, and begs the Pardon of this House for the same:"

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Thomas Burrow shall be, and is hereby, discharged from his Restraint (paying his Fees); and this shall be a sufficient Warrant on that Behalf.

Bill to prevent the Exportation of Bullion, and melting the Coin.

ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Bill, intituled, "An Act against the Exportation of Gold and Silver, and melting down the Coin of this Realm," shall be read the First Time on Wednesday next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon.

Hartstongue versus Lloyd.

Whereas this Day was appointed for hearing the Cause, wherein Sir Standish Hartstongue is Plaintiff, and Lewis Lloyd Defendant; Counsel appearing for the Defendant, but no Counsel for the Plaintiff:

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will hear the said Cause, by Counsel on both Sides, at the Bar, To-morrow, next after the Lord Ferrers' Cause: And it is further ORDERED, That the said Sir Standish Hartstongue do pay, or cause to be paid, unto the said Lewis Lloyd the Sum of Ten Pounds, for his Costs and Charges in attending with his Counsel this Day.
