E. of Essex's Bill.

The House took into Consideration the Amendments made by the House of Commons, in the Bill to enable the Earl of Essex to make a Wife a Jointure, &c.

The Amendments were read Twice, and Agreed to.

Message from H. C. to return Sir H. Middleton's Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir Edmond Jennings and others:

Who returned a Bill, sent down to the Commons, concerning Sir Hugh Middleton; to which the Commons have agreed, without any Amendments.

Message to them, that the Lords agree to E of Shaftesbury's Bill, and the E. of Essex's.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Robert Le Gard and Mr. Kecke:

To let them know, that this House have agreed to the Amendments in the Bill concerning the Earl of Shaftesbury.

Also to acquaint the Commons, that the Lords have agreed to the Amendments in the Bill concerning Algernoone Earl of Essex.

Washington, Gunner of The Defiance, to be sent for by the Admiralty, for assaulting the Officer of this House.

William Clayton, Messenger, upon Oath, deposed at the Bar, "That he attached the Body of John Washington Yesterday, by virtue of an Order of this House; but afterwards he sell upon him, and beat him, and broke his Sword, and refused to obey the Order of this House, with Contempt:"

Whereupon it is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty do forthwith send for, and cause to be brought to the Bar of this House, John Washington, Gunner in Their Majesties Ship called The Defiance, to answer the Breach of the Privilege, and Contempt of an Order, of this House.

Message from H. C. to return LeGrand & al. Nat. Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir Jonathan Jennings and others:

Who returned the Bill for naturalizing David Le Grand and others; in which they have (fn. 1) made some Amendments, and desire their Lordships Concurrence thereunto.

The Amendments were read Twice, and Agreed to.

Message to them, that the Lords agree to Amendments in it.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Robert Le Guard and Mr. Kecke:

To acquaint them, that this House agrees to the Amendments in the Bill for naturalizing David Le Grand and others.

Bill for the Queen to be Regent.

Hodie 1^a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for the Exercise of the Government by Her Majesty, during His Majesty's Absence."

ORDERED, That this Bill be read the Second Time on Monday next.

Sir R. Vyner's Creditors and Executors Bill.

Hodie 1^a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for confirming certain Articles of Agreement, made between the Creditors and Executors of Sir Robert Vyner deceased."

ORDERED, That this Bill be read the Second Time, after the Bill for the Exercise of the Government by Her Majesty.

Law, Practice of, Bill for regulating.

The House was put into a Committee, to consider of the Bill for the Benefit of the Subject, in relation to Practice and Execution of the Law.

The House being resumed;

The Earl of Bridgewater reported, "That the House hath been in Consideration of the said Bill; and desire that a Day may be appointed to hear the Counsel of the Lords Commissioners of the Great Seal, what they can object against the passing of that Bill; and also to hear the Judges Opinion concerning the Statutes cited in the said Bill."

Which the House agreed to; and ordered Tuesday Morning next for that Purpose.

The Question being put, "Whether the Cause which was appointed to have been heard this Day shall be heard this Afternoon?"

It was Resolved in the Negative.

Crooke versus Watt.

Upon reading the Petition of Peter Crooke and Elizabeth his Wife; praying, "That the Appeal of John Watt, Francis Camfeild, and Elizabeth his Wife, may be dismissed this House, because they have not entered into a Recognizance to pay Costs if their Appeal be dismissed:"

It is ORDERED, That the said John Watt, Francis Camfeild and Elizabeth his Wife, or One of them, do enter into a Recognizance, as abovesaid, on or before Monday next; or else the said Appeal shall be dismissed.

Brooke & al. versus Marshal & al.

ORDERED, That the Cause which was appointed to be heard this Day, wherein Sir Robert Brooke and others are Plaintiffs, and Margaret Marshall and others Defendants, shall be heard on Monday (fn. 1) next, after the Hearing of Sir Rob't Dashwood's and Sir John Champante's Case.

Vincent versus Parker.

ORDERED, That this House will hear the Cause, wherein Vincent Vincent Esquire is Plaintiff, and Anne Parker Defendant, on Monday the 5th of May next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon.

Grigg to be Receiver of the Peers Pollmoney.

The House being this Day moved, "That Sir Robert Atkins, Speaker of this House, may have the naming of a Gentleman to be Receiver of the several Sums of Money rated, and to be rated, upon the Nobility of this Realm, by virtue of an Act, intituled, "An Act for raising Money, by a Poll and otherwise, towards the reducing of Ireland, and prosecuting the War against France:"

It is ORDERED, That Benjamin Grigg shall, by virtue of this Order, be Receiver, as abovesaid; which said Sums of Money he shall dispose of to such Persons respectively, and to such Uses, as are appointed by the said Act.

Adjourn.
