Prays that certain inhabitants and traders of Maryland with experience of the conditions of government there, may be summoned before the Committee to testify concerning the charge contained in the recent declaration of Capt. Jan. 29 Virginia	50. Col. Nathaniel Bacon to John Coode. Yours of 10 Jan. received. I hear from the messenger that it was written last Friday, so that you have not received an account of the Proceedings of the Council concerning the death of John Payne, the King's collector. Upon the first notice of this I issued a warrant and secured John Woodcock and George Mason, but the latter is so dangerously wounded that it is doubtful whether he will live. A warrant is still out against William Ayleworth and `Brother Will'. The Council at James City on Jan. 16 ordered that no European ship shall be cleared until March 1 in order that such may sail to Point Comfort in James River and make up a fleet; none, however, shall sail before March 15.
