146. Coventry and Lichfield, bishop
In the late 12C the bishop of Coventry acquired land in London near Newgate (probably 152). No London land is noted for 1291, and this property may have been lost before then. The property (mansum de Ly Stronde) recorded for the bishop of Coventry and Lichfield in 1535 is evidently different, and lay outside the city. The archives at Lichfield have not been visited, but may contain more than the material noted below. See J. C. Cox, 'Catalogue of the Muniments and MS. Books of the Dean and Chapter of Lichfield', Collections for a History of Staffordshire (William Salt Archaeological Society 6 pt. 2, 1886); HMC (37) Fourteenth Report Appendix VIII, pp. 205–236.

151. Durham, cathedral priory
Fd. 1083; diss. 1539. The records are extensive but yielded no further London refs. than those noted below, and it is probable that the priory had no city property after the mid 13C. The MSS are dean and chapter muniments, in the Department of Palaeography and Diplomatic, The Prior's Kitchen, The College, Durham.
a. Deeds. 1. 4 Ebor. 27: deed, 1109×38 (London unspec.; transcribed in Proc. Soc. Ant. 2nd ser. 32 (1919–20), 145); possibly connected with the bishop of Durham's Domesday holding of the manor of Waltham, Essex, with a gate (Aldgate) and 12 houses in London (DB ii, f. 15v). 3. 13 Pont. 5, 1. 4 Ebor. 28: deed and copy deed, c. 1227 (56, also copy of 1. 4 Ebor. 27). 1. 7 Pont. 11: lease, 1403 (120); no apparent connection with priory.
