Grant by Katharine late the wife of Clement de Plumstede that, whereas Roger Martyn of Schipedene had agreed to pay her yearly till the lawful age of Anne daughter and heir of the said Clement the yearly service he was accustomed to render to the said Clement for the tenements he held of him in Schipenden and had attorned to her therefor, she would acquit him against all men by reason of the said payment. Indenture, being the defeasance of two charters of feoff- ment of even date, by the first of which, John Archer the younger and Joan his wife, of Sudbury, late of Neylond, John Archer the elder of Sud- bury and John Hyde of Neylond, enfeoffed James Smyth of Neylond, Stephen Smyth his son, John Reynham the elder, Henry Lyghtskyrt, Thomas Taillour, Thomas Roos, the elder, John Roote, ' clothmaker,' John Vigerous and Thomas Hamond, 'fuller,' of Neylond, of a tenement in the town of Neylond, between the tenement formerly John Josep's late John Balston's and the barn and garden, late John Balston's, afterwards Robert Clerk's, on one side, and the pond from the fulling mill towards 'le Common fen' on the other, one head abutting on the highway from Col- chester to Stoke on the west and the other on John Balston's garden, as above; and by the second of which the said John Archer the younger and John Hach the elder, of Sudbury, enfeoffed the said persons of two other tenements in Neylond adjoining that above mentioned; if the said James Smyth paid 40l. to the said John Archer the younger, viz. 20l. at Easter next and the like at the following Easter, the said feoffments and seisin had thereon to stand good, otherwise to be void. Hertford, and Ralph Pynchebek,' vicar of the church of Weston, of the manor of Haryngton, a water-mill called ' Stubwathmyll,' a meadow called 'Igneys' and certain lands and tenements called 'Philypotlanddes' in Haryngton and Aswardby, together with lands &c., services of free and bond &c. to the said manor belong- ing in Haryngton, Aswardby, Bagendyrby, Langton, Sawsethorp, Sotyrby, Dalby, Parteney, Braytoft, Irby, Croft, Freskeney, Belysby and Hagworthyngham, which manor &c. they had by the gift and feoffment of the said John Copuldyk, since dceased; to hold to the said Margaret, and the others, for the term of her life, with remainder to the said Richard Pynchebek and the others, for the performance of the last will of the said John Copuldyk. Grant in pure alms by Andrew Giffard, with his body, to the church of St. Mary of Stanley (Stanleia) and the monks there, of the land with a messuage (masuagio) in Sutton, which William Blund (Blundus) held of him; to hold free from all service and exaction, provided however that the said William and his heirs shall hold the same of the House of Stanley by hereditary right, rendering therefore yearly to the said House of Stanley 2s. for all service; also grant to the said monks that they may have for ever six oxen and three cows, quit of herbage, in his pasture, together with his demesne oxen and likewise one bull, and four pigs in his wood, quit of pannage. Indenture between John Trevarthian of the one part and Hamely Trelegh of the other, being the defeasance of a statute merchant of even date, made before the mayor of Lostwythyel, whereby the said John was bound to the said Hamely in 40l. due on the feast of St. Andrew the Apostle then next; viz. if the said John paid 20 marks on the said feast of St. Andrew, 10 marks on the feast of St. Michael following and 10 marks on the same feast next after that, the recognizance to be void. Written at Marg . . . ., 12 August, 46 Edward III. 'And also this indenture witnesses that the said Hamely has granted and given to the said John Trevarthian the ward of the body of Joan daughter and heir of Master John Penpons for the sum abovesaid.' Indenture being a grant by Christina late the wife of Robert Birecomb, as tenant in tail (tenens in tallia), to Nicholas Birecomb of all her estate of all her lands &c. in Sandford Arundell, save all her houses till Hocktide next, a curtilage on the west of the said house, a close of land containing 4a. lying between the said curtilage and a close of Walter Paysehey, and two closes of land, containing 8a., called 'Birecomb,' till Michaelmas next, and a barn at Birrecomb from Michaelmas till the follow- ing Easter; rent, at Easter 6s. 8d., at Midsummer 10s., at Michaelmas 10s., and thereafter for the term of her life 33s. 4d. payable quarterly. Indenture of demise by John son of Alan de Cobeldik to John de Benyton and his assigns of a messuage in the town of Konyngesby lying in ' le Wildemore' next the river Wythem, and called 'Deynebothe,' with two weirs and the waters adjacent, viz. with the weir called 'Tynehering' and the weir called 'Swetingbight,' except the place and area lying between two houses situate in the same dwelling (manso) as enclosed by a wall and the Withem; to hold from the feast of the Apostles Philip and James next for eight years, by service of 43s. 4d., sixty geese and sixty 'stikkes' of live eels to be paid to the said master John yearly, viz. the 43s. 4d. quarterly on the feasts of St. Botolph, St. Michael, Christmas and Easter, the geese on the feast of St. Peter ad Vincula, and the eels on the feast of St. Martin in Winter; and if in any of the said eight years so many eels be not taken in the waters and weirs aforesaid, 3d. to be paid for every 'stikke' of eels lacking; should the rent be in arrear it was to be lawful for the said Master John to distrain not only on the said messuage, &c. but on all the lands and tenements the said John then had in the towns of Frampton, Wyberton, Skyrbek, Boston (Sancto Botolpho), Fenne and Benyton; and the said John de Benyton at the end of the said term was to pay to the said Master John, or his executors, twenty old geese (aucas veteres) and four males (anseres) which he received from him at the commencement of the term, and besides these sixty young geese (aucas) on the feast of St. Peter ad Vincula following the said term; he was to keep the messuage and weirs in repair; neither he nor his were to make any waste (notabilem destruccionem), in the grounds (parkis) to the said messuage belonging. Demise by Adam de Newmarch (Novo Mercato) to the executors of Sir Henry de Newmarch of the easement of the grange, the granary, fruit of the garden and customary works, to make what profit shall seem good to them, viz. till Midsummer A.D. 1280; also grant that John the reeve (prepositus) shall be in all ways assistant to them.

Indenture being the defeasance of a feoffment made by John, lord of Eglosmerther, to Walter de Tretherf, of all the messuages, lands and tenements he had in Trethoggamur, together with the homage, rent and service of six free tenants; viz. if the said Sir John pay the said Walter 40 marks on the feast of St. Philip and St. James next following after the end of ten years from date, the feoffment shall be void. Tretherf, Friday after St. Ambrose, 16 Edward III.

Letters patent by Peter de la More and Amy his wife, being an acquittance for 60 marks sterling wherein John de Reskemmer was bound to them for their quitclaim in a moiety of the fee of one knight in in Treg[olloghan], Trebervet, Trevighan, Chyuran and Karnallas, to be paid in the church of St. Swythun of Winchester; also, if there was any doubt concerning the chirograph of the final concord levied between them before Sirs Gilbert de Preston, Geoffrey de Leukenor, Walter de Heliun, justices in eyre of the king in Devon and Exeter, they would renew the same, at his wish, before the justices of the king in the Bench. Indenture being a feoffment by Nicholas de Weylaund, knight, to Hugh Tibaud of Schepedene, for his homage and service, of a piece of land in the town of Schepedene between the highway on the east and the messuage which was Avelina Howard's, one head abutting on land which Roger Brining bought of the said Sir Nicholas on the north, and the other on land which was William Punchun's, measuring from Brining's land to that late Punchun's 113 feet; rent 4s. 7d. for all service.
