Undertaking by William de Middelton, clerk, that if Sir Adam de Strattone, clerk, should at any time be impleaded in the King's court concerning a messuage, land, and tenement, which William had in Tyteberst, in the parish of Aldenham, of the grant of Emma late the wife of Walter de Camera, and which he had granted to the said Sir Adam, and if without default of his own he should fairly lose the suit, that then the said William should be bound to pay him 30 marks within a month after notice given; with further undertaking to acquit him whether against Jew or Jewess as to any debt concerning the said premises. Grant by Miles de Buleh, to Henry de Columbariis, his kinsman (cognato), of a virgate of land in Uffinton, with four acres more of the land which Richard de Paris held of Jordan in excess of his hide, retaining, for the grantor's own use, the mansion (mansuram) belonging to the said virgate, and granting in exchange the next (propinqniorem) mansion situate before Jordan's house; to hold to him and his heirs at the rent of a gilt spur. Salop.	A. 6748. Demise by John Bokyngham, the prior, and the convent, of the house of Jesus of Betheleem, of Shene, co. Surrey to Ralph Egerton, esquire, and Richard Haukyn, vicar of the church of Madeley under Lyme, co. Stafford, for five years, of the rectory of Drayton in Halys, co. Salop, with a yearly pension of 40s. to be received from the abbot and convent of Comburmere, and all other profits except the advowson of the vicarage of the same; the grantees to pay yearly 19l. to the said prior and convent, and to lay out yearly, on Holy Thursday, at their own expense, thirteen 'strikes' of corn and 13d. by view of the vicar there, upon thirteen of the most needy parishioners as the alms of the said prior and convent; if the grantees fulfil all the agreements, then a bond entered into by them and others named, for 40l. to the said prior and convent, shall be void. Note of agreement made between Robert, abbot of Cum- bermere, and John de Bresci and Margery his wife, for the election by them of four arbitrators in all questions touching lands and tenements which the said John and Margery claim to hold in Great Drayton in Hales, and concerning certain money claimed by the said abbot from the heirs of Richard de Prayers, also concerning all the tenants of the said abbot in Drayton against whom the said John and Margery have any plaint; if the said arbitrators are unable to finish the matter, they are to choose an umpire (noumpiere) to do so.
