Popham versus Bampfield.
The Earl of Bridgewater reported from the Committee, to whom was referred the Petition of Alexander Popham, against Warwick Bampfeild and others, "That their Lordships are of Opinion, that, there yet appearing to their Lordships to have been no Proceedings of the Court of Chancery in this Matter, nothing need to be done therein by the House."
To which the House agreed.
Answer from H. C.
The Messengers sent Yesterday to the House of Commons acquainted the House, "That the Commons will give a Conference, as desired."
Managers of the Conference with them, about Proceedings in Council concerning the Admirals who commanded the Summer Fleet, and Sir G. Rooke:
ORDERED, That the Lords following shall manage this Conference:
Dux Bolton. Comes Manchester. Comes Bathe. Comes Maclesfeld. Comes Marleborough. Viscount Weymouth. Viscount Longueville. |

ORDERED, To acquaint the Commons, that this House having made an humble Address to His Majesty, "That He would please to order, that such Proceedings as were lately in Council, or in the Committee of Council, relating to the Admirals, or Sir George Rooke, in the last Summer's Expedition, might be laid before this House; and His Majesty being pleased to return Answer, That the same were before the House of Commons; this House desires that the said Proceedings may be transferred to their Lordships."
Williams versus Reade.
Then the Question was put, "Whether the Cause, appointed this Day to be heard, wherein Walter Williams is Appellant, and Richard Read Respondent, shall be put off until Tomorrow?"
It was Resolved in the Affirmative.
Report of the Conference.
The Commons being come to the Conference, the House was adjourned during Pleasure, and the Lords went to the Conference.
Which being ended, the House was resumed.
And the Duke of Bolton reported, "That they had obeyed the Commands of this House."
Libel against the Trinity, to be burnt:
Whereas an infamous and scandalous Libel hath been sent to several Lords of this House, intituled, "A brief, but clear, Confutation of the Doctrine of the Trinity:"
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Libel shall be burnt, by the Hands of the Common Hangman, in The Old Palace Yard, at Westminster, To-morrow, between the Hours of Twelve and One of the Clock.
To the Sheriffs of London and Midd'x.
Attorney General to prosecute the Author, &c.
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That Their Majesties Attorney General do take Care to prosecute the Author and Printer of an infamous and scandalous Libel (intituled, "A brief, but clear, Confutation of the Doctrime of the Trinity,") according to Law.
Admirals to attend.
The House went into Debate of the Business, relating to the Admirals who commanded the Fleet the last Summer.
And, after some Time spent therein, the following Orders were made:
"It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Consideration of the Business relating to the Admirals shall be adjourned until Friday next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon."
"It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Admirals who commanded the Fleet the last Summer do attend this House on Friday next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon."
Priestman and Southern to attend;
"It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That Captain Priestman, One of the Commissioners for executing the Office of Lord High Admiral of England, and Mr. Southerne, do attend this House on Friday next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon."
and Witnesses en Behalf of the Admirals.
"It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That all the Witnesses who were ordered to attend this House Tomorrow, in relation to the Expedition of the Fleet the last Summer, on the Behalf of the Admirals who commanded the said Fleet, do attend this House on Friday next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon."
