This Day Sir John Sommers Knight, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal of England, sat first as Speaker in the House of Peers.
L. Keeper Sommers, Speaker.
The Lord Keeper acquainted the House, "That Her Majesty had sent a Commission for the further proroguing of this Parliament."
Hereupon the Lords Commissioners, in their Robes, being seated on a Form placed between the Throne and the Woolsack; the Lord Keeper in the Middle; and the Lord Chamberlain, Earl of Bridgewater, and Earl of Macclesfeild, on his Right Hand; the Earl of Nottingham and the Earl of Bath on his Left Hand; commanded the Gentleman Usher the Black Rod to give the House of Commons Notice of the said Commission; and to signify to them, "That the Lords desire they would be present, to hear the said Commission read."
Who being come, with their Speaker; the Commission was read, as followeth;

Vicesimo Die Martii, Anno Regni Nostri Secundo, inchoari et teneri ordinaverimus; a quo Die idem Parliamentum Nostrum usque ad et in Vicesimum Tertium Diem Maii tunc proxime sequen. continuatum fuerat; et abinde, per separales Prorogationes et Adjournationes, ad et in Secundum Diem instantis Maii prorogatum et adjournatum fuerat, apud Civitatem Nostram Westm. prædictam, ibidem tunc tenendum et prosequendum: Sciatis tamen, quod, certis urgentibus Causis et Considerationibus Nos specialiter moventibus, idem Parliamentum Nostrum prorogandum duximus. Damus autem universis et singulis Archiepiscopis, Ducibus, Marchionibus, Comitibus, Vicecomitibus, Episcopis, Baronibus, Militibus, Civibus, et Burgensibus, ac omnibus aliis quorum interest ad dictum Parliamentum Nostrum conventuris, Tenore Præsentium, firmiter in Mandatis, quod vobis in Præmissis faciendis, agendis, et exequendis, pareant, obediant, et intendant, prout decet.
