Prayers.

Ledgingham's Ship Pumps.

A PETITION of Sir Robert Gordon was presented to the House, and read; setting forth, That the House having taken into Consideration the making of Pumps for Ships, in which the Petitioner some Years ago so far prevailed, that, upon a critical Trial, by the late King's Order, in a Fourth-rate Frigate, an Invention of his did exceed the Chain-pump by near Eight to One: And praying no Grant may be made, to prejudice his said Invention.

Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Petition be referred to the Committee, to whom the said Bill is committed.

Arrears for quartering Soldiers.

A Petition of the Innkeepers of New Sarum, on behalf of themselves, and the rest of the Innkeepers, Victuallers, and other Public-house-keepers, within the said City and Place, was presented to the House, and read; setting forth, That the Petitioners having, at their own Charges, quartered and subsisted several Companies of Colonel Coote's and Colonel Northcott's Regiments of Foot, there is due to them upwards of 900l. as by the Accounts stated between the Officers, and the Mayor of the said City, may appear; and the Petitioners have applied themselves to the Agents of the several Regiments, which proved ineffectual: And praying the Consideration of the House, and Relief in the Premises.

Ordered, That the said Petition do lie upon the Table.

Exporting Wool, Fullers Earth, &c.

An ingrossed Bill for the Explanation, and better Execution, of former Acts, made against Transportation of Wool, Fullers Earth, and Scouring Clay, was read the Third time.

And several Amendments were proposed to be made to the Bill; viz.

Pr. 1. L. 7, to leave out "Tobacco-pipe," and insert, instead thereof, "Scouring:"

Pr. 5. L. 26, the same:

And the same were, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House; and the Bill amended at the Table accordingly.

Resolved, That the Bill do pass: And the Title be, An Act for the Explanation, and better Execution, of former Acts, made against Transportation of Wool, Fullers Earth, and Scouring Clay.

Ordered, That Sir William Lowther do carry the Bill to the Lords, and desire their Concurrence thereunto.

Supply Bill; Tonage and Poundage.

A Bill for granting to his Majesty a further Subsidy of Tonage and Poundage, towards raising the yearly Sum of 700,000l. for the Service of his Majesty's Houshold, and other Uses therein mentioned, during his Majesty's Life, was read a Second time.

Resolved, That the Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House.

Resolved, That this House will, To-morrow Morning, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of the said Bill.

Preventing false Election Returns.

Resolved, That this House will, upon Thursday Morning next, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of the Bill for making more effectual an Act, made in the 23d Year of the Reign of King Henry the Sixth, for remedying false and undue Returns of Members of Parliament; and also to prevent double Returns.

Supply Bill; raising Annuities. [New E. I. Co. incorporated.]

Mr. Lowndes, according to Order, presented to the House a Bill for raising a Sum, not exceeding Two Millions, by settling a perpetual Fund for Payment of certain Annuities, after the Rate of 8l. per Annum for every Hundred Pounds, and by further Advantages therein mentioned, redeemable by Parliament: And the same was received.

The Bill was read the First time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time upon Friday Morning next.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir John Franklyn and Sir John Hoskins:

Mr. Speaker,

Garon's, &c. Nat.

The Lords have agreed to the Bill, intituled, An Act for naturalizing Peter Garon, and others, with some Amendments, to which they desire the Concurrence of this House. Also,

Kingston upon Hull Work-houses.

The Lords have agreed to the Bill, intituled, An Act for erecting Work-houses, and Houses of Correction, in the Town of Kingston upon Hull, for the Employment and Maintenance of the Poor there, without any Amendment.

And then the Messengers withdrew.

Supply Bill; Building Ships.

Sir Thomas Littleton, according to Order, reported, from the Committee of the whole House, to whom the Bill for applying to the Use of his Majesty's Navy and Ordnance, the Overplus of the Money and Stores, which were provided for the Seven-and-twenty Ships of War, was committed, the Amendment, made by the Committee, to the said Bill; which they had directed him to report to the House; which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same was twice read; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

Ordered, That the Bill, with the Amendment, be ingrossed.

Committees.

Ordered, That all Committees be revived.

And then the House adjourned till To-morrow Morning, Nine a Clock.
