Making Salt Water fresh.

AN ingrossed Bill from the Lords, intituled, An Act for making salt Water fresh, was read a Second time.

Resolved, That the Bill be committed to Sir Matth. Andrews, Sir Tho. Littleton, Sir Joseph Tredenham, Mr. Boscawen, Mr. Parkhurst, Sir S. Barnardiston, Mr. Ash, Mr. Bowyer, Mr. Cook, Mr. Bickerstaff, Mr. Blofeild, Mr. Clark, Mr. Christy, Mr. Bale, Sir Ra. Dutton, Sir Tho. Mompesson, Colonel Perry, Mr. Lutterell, Mr. Stonehouse, Sir Robert Cotton, Mr. Bockland, Mr. Arnold, Mr. Waller, Sir Fran. Massam, Mr. Vincent, Mr. Brewer, Mr. Foley, Mr. Lowther, Mr. Fenwick, Mr. Mawdit, Mr. Hedger: And they are to meet this Afternoon at Five a Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber.

Webb's Estate.

Mr. Christy reported from the Committee, to whom the ingrossed Bill, from the Lords, intituled, An Act for Sale of the Estate of Jonathan Web Esquire, for Discharge of Debts and Incumbrances thereupon, was committed, That they had examined and considered the same; and had directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendments: And he delivered the same in at the Clerk's Table.

Chaiter's Estate.

Sir Robert Eden reported from the Committee, to whom the ingrossed Bill, from the Lords, intituled, An Act to vest certain Lands of Sir William Chaiter Baronet, in Yorkshire and Durham, to be sold, for Payment of Debts charged thereon, and to secure Portions for younger Children, was committed, That they had examined and considered the same; and had made several Amendments; which they had directed him to report; and which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same was twice read; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House; and are as follow: viz.

Press 1. L. 11. leave out "or about," and insert Writing, bearing Date the 20th Day of January, in."

L. 12. leave out "Four," and insert "Three."

L. 35. leave out "or about," and add "Writing, bearing Date the Eighth Day of February, in."

Pr. 6. L. 16, 17, leave out "their Heirs, and the Heirs of the Survivor of them," and insert "the Survivors and Survivor of them, and the Heirs of such Survivor."

Expiring Laws.

Mr. Waller reported from the Committee, to whom the Bill for continuing several Laws, therein mentioned, which are near expiring, was committed, That they had made some Amendments to the same; which they had directed him to report; and which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout; and then a Second time, one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

Ordered, That the Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.

Kirk's Estate.

Ordered, That the Members for the County of Nottingham, and Mr. Stonehouse Mr. Arnold, Mr. Hopkins, Mr. Hedger, be added to the Committee, to whom the ingrossed Bill from the Lords, intituled, An Act for selling the Estate of John Kirk, deceased, for Payment of his Debts . . . . .

Complaint from Inhabitants of Tanger.

Ordered, That Sir Ralph Dutton, Mr. Stonehouse, Mr. Holt, Mr. Taylor, Major Vincent, Mr. Trelawny, Mr. Stokes, Mr. Bockland, Mr. Hopkins, Mr. Burrard, Mr. Kendall, Mr. Hedger, Mr. Lowther, Mr. Burdet, Mr. Brockman, be added to the Committee, to whom the Examination and Consideration of the Petition of the Inhabitants of Tanger is referred.

Recovering small Tythes.

A Bill for the more easy Recovery of small Tythes was read the First time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time.

Fleetwood's Estate.

An ingrossed Bill, from the Lords, intituled, An Act for the ratifying and confirming a certain Indenture of Lease of Marton Mear, in the County of Lancaster, made by the Earl of Derby, and others, to Thomas Fleeiwood Esquire, was read the Third time.

And the Question being put, That the Bill do pass;

Supply Bill; Annuities for Life.

Sir Thomas Littleton reported, from the Committee of the whole House, to whom the Bill was committed, for enabling such Persons as have Estates for Life in Annuities, payable by several former Acts, therein mentioned, to purchase and obtain further, or more certain, Interests in such Annuities; and, in Default thereof, for admitting other Persons to purchase or obtain the same; the Amendments, made by the Committee, to the said Bill; which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout; and then a Second time, one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

Ordered, That the Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.

Tonage Duties.

Resolved, That this House will, upon Saturday Morning next, take into Consideration the Motion formerly made from the Committee of the whole House, to whom it was referred to consider of the Report from the Committee appointed to consider of the Act, passed the last Session, for laying several Duties upon the Tonage of Ships, as it relates to the Isle of Wight, and Town and County of Southampton; and the Town of Portsmouth, and to all the Coasting-Trade; and of the Doubts and Complaints relating thereunto: And that afterwards this House will resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider further of the said Report.

Punishing T. and E. Pauncefort, &c.

Mr. Harley, from the Commissioners for taking and stating the public Accounts, reported the further Examination of Mr. Edward Pauncefort; and that Mr. Richard Harnage, one of the Contractors for Cloathing of the Army, had refused to be examined upon Oath before the said Commissioners, in relation to the said Cloathing, and the Accounts thereof.

Ordered, That a Bill be brought in to oblige Mr. Edward Pauncefort to discover how he disposed the Monies paid into his Hands, relating to the Army; and for punishing him, in case he shall not make such Discovery.

Ordered, That Mr. Tracey Pauncefort, Mr. James Craggs, and Mr. Richard Harnage, be included in the said Bill.

Ordered, That Mr. Harley do prepare, and bring in, the said Bill.

Corrupt Application of Money by E. I. Company.

The House, according to the Order of the Day, proceeded in the further Consideration of the Report from the Committee appointed to inspect the Books of the East-India Company, and of the Chamberlain of the City of London.

Resolved, That this House will proceed upon that Part of the said Report, which relates to the Members of this House taking Money.

And Mr. Solicitor-General stood up, and gave an Account to the House, upon what Account he had the Five Guineas.

Also, Mr. Hungerford did the same, as to the Twenty Guineas he had.

Mr. Hungerford expelled.

Resolved, That Mr. Hungerford, a Member of this House, having received Twenty Guineas for his Pains and Service, as Chairman of the Committee of this House, to whom the Orphans Bill was committed, is guilty of a high Crime and Misdemeanour.

Resolved, That Mr. Hungerford, a Member of this House, being guilty of a high Crime and Misdemeanour, by receiving Twenty Guineas for his Pains and Service, as Chairman of the Committee of this House, to whom the Orphans Bill was committed, be expelled this House.

Ordered, That that Part of the Report from the said Committee, which relates to the East-India Company, be now read.

And it was read accordingly.

Sir T. Cook committed.

Ordered, That Sir Thomas Cook do give an Account to this House, how the Eighty-seven thousand Four hundred and Two Pounds Twelve Shillings and Three-pence, in the said Report mentioned, was distributed.

Which he refusing to do;
And being heard;
And being withdrawn;

Resolved, That Sir Thomas Cook, a Member of this House, having refused to give an Account how the said Eighty-seven thousand Four hundred and Two Pounds Twelve Shillings aad Three-pence, was distributed, be committed Prisoner to the Tower of London: And that Mr. Speaker do issue his Warrants accordingly.

Bill compelling him to account.

Ordered, That a Bill be brought in to oblige Sir Thomas Cook to give an Account to whom he paid and distributed the said Eighty-seven thousand Four hundred and Two Pounds Twelve Shillings and Three-pence, and other Sums of Money, mentioned in the said Report to be received and distributed by him: And that Mr. Bridges do prepare, and bring in, the Bill.

Resolved, That this House will, upon Thursday Morning next, proceed in the further Consideration of the said Report.

And then the House adjourned till To-morrow Morning Nine a Clock.
