Clitheroe Return amended.

THE Clerk of the Crown, according to Order, attended with the Returns for the Borough of Clitheroe in the County of Lancaster; and amended the same, by taking off the Return of Fitton Gerard Esquire, and rasing out the Name of Christopher Lyster out of the Return under the Seal of the said Borough, and inserting the Name of the said Fitton Gerard in the room thereof.

Building Ships.

An ingrossed Bill for building good and defensible Ships was read the Third time.

An Amendment being proposed to be made * L. 2d, after "Customs," to insert "of Tonage and Poundage;"

And the Question being put, That the said Words be added to the Bill;

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That the Bill do pass: And that the Title be, An Act for building good and defensible Ships.

Ordered, That Sir Henry Ashurst do carry the Bill to the Lords, and desire their Concurrence thereunto.

Tonage Duties, &c. [Bank of England incorporated.]

An ingrossed Bill for granting to their Majesties several Rates and Duties upon the Tonage of Ships and Vessels, and upon Beer, Ale and other Liquors, for securing certain Recompences and Advantages, in the said Act mentioned, to such Persons as shall voluntarily advance the Sum of Fifteen hundred thousand Pounds, towards carrying on the War against France, was read the Third time:

An Amendment was proposed to be made; Pr. *. L. * by leaving out "at the time of the sealing such respective Security:"

And the same was, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House; and the Bill amended at the Table accordingly.

Also the same Amendment was made, Pr. *. L. *. in the same Clause.

Another Amendment was proposed to be made in Pr. *. L. *. after "Administrators," to insert "in proportion to their respective Shares or Subscriptions, as aforesaid:"

And the same was, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House; and the Bill amended at the Table accordingly.

An ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider, That * * * *:

And the same was thrice read; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Another ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider, That no Person shall subscribe to the Bank above 10,000l.:

And the same was twice read; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Another ingrossed Clause was offered as a Rider, That all Bills of Credit, under Seal of the Corporation, may be assignable by Indorsement:

And the same was twice read; and amended by the House; and then read the Third time; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Another ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider, That all Sums lent upon the Credit of the said Fund, shall be entered in a Book, that it may be known when the 1,200,000l. shall be advanced:

And the same was once read.

And the Question being put, That the Clause be read a Second time;

It passed in the Negative.

Another ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider, That * * * *:

And the same was twice read, with Blanks, which were filled up by the House:

And then the Clause was read the Third time; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Another ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider, That no Person shall have above 20,000l. in the Bank, except it happen by Marriage, Legacy, Executorship, or Death of Parties, and not otherwise; with Blanks:

And the same was twice read; and the Blanks filled up by the House:

And then the Clause was read the Third time:

And the Question being put, That the Clause be made Part of the Bill;

It passed in the Negative.

Another ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider, That no Officer belonging to the Excise shall vote for, or influence any Person to vote for Parliament-Men; with a Blank for the Forfeiture, and Time when to commence:

And the same was twice read; and the Blanks filled up by the House:

And the Clause was read the Third time; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

Another ingrossed Clause was offered, as a Rider, That the Gauger shall leave a Note, in Writing of the last Gauges; with a Blank for the Penalty:

And the same was twice read; and the Blank filled up by the House:

And then the Clause was read the Third time; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House to be made Part of the Bill.

The House, according to the Order of the Day, resolved itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider further of the Bill for granting to their Majesties several Duties upon Paper and Parchment.

Sir Thomas Littleton took the Chair of the Committee.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Sir Thomas Littleton reported from the said Committee, That they had gone through the Bill, and made several Amendments thereunto; which they had directed him to report when the House would please to receive the same.

Ordered, That the said Report be made To-morrow Morning.

Supply Bill; Hackney Coach Duty.

Resolved, That this House will, To-morrow Morning at Eleven a Clock, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of the Bill for Licensing of Hackney Coaches.

D'Offarrell's Nat.

Ordered, That the Committee, to whom the ingrossed Bill, intituled, An Act for naturalizing Johanna D'Offarrell an Infant, and her Sister and Two Brothers, is committed, be revived; and do sit To-morrow Morning at Eight a Clock in the Speaker's Chamber.

Halfpence and Farthings.

Ordered, That the Committee, appointed to prepare the Address to his Majesty, touching Halfpence and Farthings, be revived; and do sit To-morrow Morning at Eight a Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber.

And then the House adjourned till To-morrow Morning, Nine a Clock.
