Resolved, upon the Question, That this Committee shall retire into the Court of Wards, to consider of these Two Bills, during the Time the Bill of Subsidies is in reading.

Persons absconding summoned.

Sir Robert Harley went up to the Lords with this Message;

To desire a free Conference, by a Committee of both Houses, so soon as may stand with their Lordships Occasions, concerning something arising.

To desire a free Conference with the Lords; to let them know, that divers Persons, that this House had examined, to have had further Information from them concerning the Matter of the Conference Yesterday, do absent themselves, notwithstanding Warrants are gone for them: To desire some Course may be taken, that they may be forthwith brought in, or otherwise the Ports to be shut.

Mr. Pymme, Sir Edw. Hungerford, Mr. Strode, Sir Walter Earle, Sir John Culpepper, are appointed to manage this Conference.

To remember the Message Yesterday.

That divers Persons have been summoned to attend, and are fled away; and, in particular, Mr. Henry Jermyn, Mr. Hen. Percie, and Mr. Davenant: That this makes us think the rest will be gone:

That their Lordships will move her Majesty to forbear her Journey to Portsmouth; to the end her Person may be secured here; not knowing what Danger her Person may be in, if she go there:

That his Majesty will cause all the Ports to be stopped; and, if certain that these Men are gone, a Proclamation may issue forth against them: Also, that some Provision be made for the safety of the Kingdom, that this Plot may be discovered; and that some Course be taken to satisfy the Army, that hath been endeavoured to be seduced; and to declare that such Officers, as will discover any thing in this Case, shall be well esteemed of.

Resolved, upon the Question, That the House shall sit this Afternoon at Two of Clock; to proceed with the Bill of Subsidies.

RESOLVED, upon the Question, That Sir Rich. Wynne, Sir Wm. Uvedale, Sir Gregory Fenner, Mr. Baldwin, Mr. Nicholas, Mr. Packer, shall be left out from amongst the Commissioners for assessing the Subsidies for the City of Westminster, and the Liberties.

Isle of Jersey.

A Message to be sent to the Lords, to represent the State of Jersey, how it stands now, and the Necessity of having it in a Man's Hand of Trust:

To desire that the Earl of Stamford may be recommended to the Government of the Isle of Jersey:

That there may be Stay of the One thousand Five hundred Barrels of Gunpowder, that are now shipp'd to be sent down to Portsmonth.

Resolved, upon the Question, That John Earl of Bristoll shall be left out of the Names for the Commissioners, amongst the Lords, for Assessing of the Subsidies; and the Earl of Stamford put in his Place.

Mr. Whitlocke reports the Bill, intituled, An Act for the Continuance of this present Parliament: The Amendments and Alterations to this Bill, were twice read; and the Bill, upon Question, ordered to be ingrossed.

Marleborough Petition.

Mr. Philip Smith, a Member of this House, received of me the Petition of divers the Inhabitants of Marleborough, to carry to the Committee.

Subsidies.

Resolved, upon the Question, That the Name of Mr. Kirton shall be put out of the Bill of Subsidies; and Sir Henry Vane's Name, the younger, put in his stead.
