Upon reading the Petition of Peter Gravier and Theodore Boucher; praying Leave to bring in a Bill, for their Naturalization:
It is Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Bill, according to the Prayer of the Petition.
River Kennet Bill.
Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for making the River Kennet navigable, from Newbury to Reading, in the County of Berks."
Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House, on Friday next; and that the Petition of Rachael Jemmatt and William Estwick, as also the Petition of George Blagrave Esquire, which on Monday last were ordered to lie on the Table, be referred to the Consideration of the said Committee; and that the said Petitioners be heard, by their Counsel, before the said Committee, thereupon, if they think fit.
Bromfield's Bill.
The House (according to Order) proceeded to take into further Consideration the Amendments made by the Commons to the Bill, intituled, "An Act for confirming a Sale already made to Edmund Dummer Gentleman of some Part, and for vesting other Part, of the Estate of John Bromfield Esquire, in the County of Southampton, comprized in the Articles made upon his Marriage with Anne his Wife, in Trustees, to be sold, for the Payment of his Debts; and for settling the remaining Part thereof as near as may be to the Intent of the said Articles; and for making thereby, and by other Means in the Act mentioned, some Provision for the said John Bromfield and Ann his Wife, and their Issue."
And the Remainder of the said Amendments were read.
And some of them were agreed to; one other agreed to, with an Amendment; and others disagreed to.
Ordered, That this House will To-morrow take into Consideration the Proceeding necessary to be had in relation to this Matter.
Owen and Meyrick, for a Clause in the Bill for continuing Laws, Bill.
Upon reading the Petition of Sir Arthur Owen Baronet and Owen Meyricke Esquire, on Behalf of themselves and several other Gentlemen and others, of the County of Anglesey; praying, "That the Clause in the Bill for continuing several Laws therein mentioned, &c. in relation to the Quarter Sessions for the County of Anglesey, may pass as it is; or that a further Day may be appointed, for Counsel to be heard on both Sides; the Petitioners not hearing till this Morning that Counsel were to be heard this Day against the said Clause:"
It is Ordered, That on Saturday next this House shall be put into a Committee on the said Bill; and that Counsel may be then heard for the said Clause before the said Committee; as may also Counsel be heard against the said Clause, at the same Time.
Liverpool Church, Bill.
The House (according to Order) was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the Bill, intituled, "An Act for building and endowing a Church upon the Scite of the Castle of Liverpoole, held by Lease from the Dutchy of Lancaster; and for explaining a former Act for the building another Church there."
And, after some Time spent therein, the House was resumed.
And the Lord Bishop of Salisbury reported from the Committee, "That they had gone through the Bill, and made some Amendments thereunto; which they had directed him to report, when the House will please to receive the same."
And his Lordship further reported, "That the Committee, observing His Majesty's Interest to be concerned in the Bill, were of Opinion, the same ought not to be read a Third Time till His Majesty's Pleasure therein be some Way signified."
Vernon's Pet. to be considered on Saturday next.
A Petition of Richard Vernon, in Custody of the Serjeant at Arms attending this House, for a Breach of Privilege, was presented to the House, and read; expressing his great Grief and Affliction for falling under the Displeasure of this House; begging Pardon for his Offence; and praying "to be discharged; and that the Recognizances entered into by him, and his Bail may be delivered up."
But the Earl of Abingdon not being in the House:
Ordered, That the further Consideration of the said Petition be adjourned till Saturday next.
Goddard versus Swinton:
Whereas Friday next was appointed, for hearing the Cause wherein John Goddard is Appellant, and Sir John Swinton Respondent; the House being this Day moved, with the Consent of both Parties, "That a further Day may be appointed for hearing thereof:"
Cause put off.
It is Ordered, That this House will hear the said Cause, by Counsel, at the Bar, on Monday next, at Eleven a Clock.
Hamilton to enter into Recognizance.
The House being moved, "That Sir David Hamilton may be allowed to enter into a Recognizance, upon the Appeal of James Hamilton of Dalziel, Esquire, depending in this House; the said Appellant's Affairs requiring his Continuance in Scotland:"
It is Ordered, That the said Sir David Hamilton may enter into a Recognizance for the said Appellant, as desired.
