[r.1] This Indenture made the first day of August in the xxiiiith yeere of the raigne of our sovereigne Lady Elizabeth by the grace of God of England, Fraunce & Ireland, defendor of the faithe etc. Witnesseth that the right honorable Sir James Harvye, knight, Lord Maior of the Citty of London, Sir Rowland Hayward, Sir Lyonell Duckett, Sir John Ryvers, Sir Thomas Ramsey & Sir Nicholas Woodroff, knightes and aldermen of the said Citty, And William Fletewood, Sergeaunt at the law and Recorder of the same Cittye, Commissioners with others deputed appointed and assigned by our said sovereigne Lady the queenes majesty by her highnes Commission under the great seale of England for the taxacion, leveyinge & gathering of the second payment of the subsidye lately graunted to her majestie by her highnes high Court of parliament holden at Westminster by divers prorogacions the xvith day of January in the xxiiith yeere of the raigne of our said sovereigne Lady the queenes majesty that now is, have appointed, nominated & assigned William Sebright and Richard Yonge, grocers, Cittizens of the said Cittie, high Collectors for the receyvinge of the said second payment of the said subsidye within the said Cittye to levey, take & receyve to the use of our said sovereigne Lady the queenes, of the severall persons heereunder written whom the said Commissioners by their Indentures to theis Indentures annexed have before this time named and appointed to be petty Collectors of the same subsidye in the severall wardes heereunder expressed, all suche sommes of money as in theis Indentures are Conteyned, viz of

All which said severall sommes of money so by them the said William Sebright and Richard Yonge, high Collectors as aforeseid, receyved and had, They the same William Sebright & Richard Yonge for them, their heires, executors & administrators do covenaunt, promise & graunt by theis presentes to content & pay to the use of our said sovereigne Lady the queenes majestie with all diligence in her exchequer at Westminster according to theffect, purporte & true meaninge of the said act deliveringe, allowinge & payinge to thandes of William Sebright, Comon Clerke of the said Cittie to the use & behoofe of the said Commissioners and of suche others as have taken paines in and about the wrightinge, makinge preceptes, engrossinge of thextractes and bookes of subsidie and other the busines and affaires concerninge the said subsidie the some of iid of every pound so to be Collected receyved or gathered by the said William Sebright and Richard Yonge or either of them, And also makinge & allowinge accordingly all suche other deduccions and allowaunces as in the said act of subsidie is Conteyned, In Wittnes whereof to thone parte of theis Indentures remayninge with the said high Collectors the foreseid Commissioners have putt there seales, And to thother parte of theis Indentures remayninge with the said Commissioners the said highcollectors have putt there seales, yeoven the day and yeare abovewritten. 167. [On rotulets 2, 3, and 4 there are three more indentures between the commissioners and high collectors. They are identical in form; only the names of the high collectors, the petty collectors, the wards, and the sums to be collected vary.]
