PRAYERS.

Making Arms more serviceable.

Hodie 1a vice lecta est Billa, An Act for making the Arms of the Kingdom more serviceable.

Sir George Ratcliff to be kept safe.

According to an Order of this House of the 9th of January 1640; Mr. Weekes, Chief Keeper of the Prison of The Gatehouse, appeared, and received Command from the House to take Care for the safe Keeping of Sir George Ratcliffe, Knight.

E. Newport versus Faucet.

Ordered, That the Earl of Newport's Cause is put off until Wednesday Morning next; and Mr. Faucet, in the mean (fn. 1) Time, to continue upon Security.

Witnesses sworn in E. Strafford's Cause.

Witnesses sworn in the Cause of the Earl of Strafford:

E. of Cleveland.

Jo. Hoge, Esquire.
Robert Kennedy, Esquire.

And all received from the House an Injunction for Secrecy, as former Witnesses have had.

Commission for swearing the E. of Morton.

Memorandum, This Day was read the Commission for taking of the Oath of the Earl of Morton, in the Cause of the Earl of Strafford and Sir George Ratcliffe, Knight; which was approved, and thought fit to be subscribed thus, per Regem in Parliamento.

Ordered, That these Lords following shall consider whether it be fit to draw and prepare a Bill to make it Felony for any that give Money for obtaining of any Places of Judicature, or Ecclesiastical Preferment, directly or indirectly, and High Treason for those that shall receive any Pension from any Foreign Prince or States. Likewise to consider of Judges holding their Places durante beneplacito.
