PREBEND

For the emergence of the preb. of Putson, see list 31. Putson Minor is prob. the preb. of Putteston held by Nicholas de Cnomule in the taxation of pope Nicholas IV c. 1291 (Taxatio p. 169a), where it is assessed at £6 7s 2d and is stated to be endowed with 4 acres at Putson, a watermill, and rents in Putson, Ludlow and the city of Hereford. The preb. of Puttestone was assessed at 5m in 1294 in the prebendal taxation list entered in bp. Swinfield's register (Reg. Swinfield p. 305). Valor III 9 assessed the preb. of Putson Minor at £4 19s 10d gross, £4 9s 10d net; the income was made up of rents from free and customary tenants, perquisites and small commons.

PREBENDARIES

M. Richard of Stratford

Dean of Arches Oct. 1273 (Churchill, Cant. Admin. II 52, 239; St Paul's WD 1 fo. 64b). Cantilupe issued mands. to install him in the preb. which had been Edmund de Mortimer's 8 July 1276 and to induct him 14 Oct. 1276, but 21 Dec. 1277 Cantilupe coll. M. Richard de Swinfield to that preb. (unnamed) (Reg. Cantilupe pp. 83, 102, 155, and see app. 2). Stratford prob. exchanged the unnamed preb. for one of the Putson prebs., which he res. by 11 Feb. 1281, when Nicholas de Knovile was coll. to his preb. (Reg. Cantilupe p. 268). Novice, not yet professed O.P., when brought his will to Hustings court 16 June 1281 (Cal. London Wills I 52).

Luke de Bree 30 Nov. 1295 (Reg. Swinfield p. 334); occ. 17 Apr. 1301 (Reg. Winchelsey I 407-8); d. by 18 Sept. 1311, when he was succeeded by Nicholas of Boreham (Reg. Swinfield p. 540).
