Mrs. Fletcher versus Baron Trevors.

Upon reading the Petition of Mary Fletcher: It is Ordered, That Baron Trevor shall give in his Answer to this House by the First Tuesday after the End of the next Term; and that Mr. Bradshaw, Mr. Hales, and Mr. Walker, are hereby assigned to be of Counsel with the Petitioner.

Ordinance for the E. of Manchester to be Lord Keeper.

The Committee reported an Ordinance drawn up for the making of the Earl of Manchester Lord Keeper of the Great Seal of England, which was read Twice.

And the House was adjourned into a Committee of the whole House, to debate it.

The House was resumed.

And the Earl of Warwicke, the Earl of Lyncolne, and the Lord Wharton, are to make such Amendments in it as was according to the Sense of the House, and report the same; which accordingly was done, and read with the Amendments.

Commission to hear Causes in Chancery.

Next, the Commission for hearing of Causes in the Chancery, being reported by the Committee, was read.

And the Question being put, "Whether to agree to this Commission now read?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Ordinance for the E. of Manchester to be Lord Keeper.

After this, the Question was put, "Whether to agree to the Ordinance now read, for making the Earl of Manchester Lord Keeper of the Great Seal of England?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Message to the H. C. with it.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Doctor Aylett and Doctor Heath:

To deliver to them the Ordinance for (fn. 1) making the Earl of Manchester Lord Keeper of the Great Seal of England, and the Commission; to which their Concurrence is desired.

Message from thence, with an Ordinance appointing Commissioners to keep the Great Seal.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Sam. Browne, &c.

To let their Lordships know, that they having received a Report from their Committee that were appointed to consider of fit Persons to be Commissioners of the Great (fn. 2) Seal for a Time, their Committee have brought in the Names, and Number, and Time; videlicet, Sir Rowland Wandsford, Mr. Chute, and Sir Tho. Bedingfield. Sir Rowland Wandsford hath excused himself; whereupon their House have named Mr. Serjeant Brampston in his Place; and have agreed the Time to be for a Year. The House of Commons conceives these Persons to be learned able Persons, and of great Integrity; wherein they desire their Lordships Concurrence.

The Ordinance was read Once.

The Answer returned was:

Answer.

That this House will take their Message into Consideration, and will send an Answer by Messengers of their own.

Great Seal continued in the same Hands.

Ordered, That the Custody of the Great Seal of England shall continue in the Hands it now remains until the End of Ten Days after the next Term; and likewise the Commission to the Judges and others for the Hearing of Causes.

H. C. to be acquainted with it.

Ordered, That Mr. Hakewill, &c. shall carry this to the House of Commons To-morrow, to desire their Concurrence therein.

Sadler to attend as an Assistant.

Ordered, That the Gentleman Usher shall give Notice to Mr. Sadler, One of the Masters of the Chancery, to attend To-morrow Morning, that so he may be called in, and admitted to attend this House as an Assistant.

Steward and De Franchi.

Ordered, by the Lords in Parliament assembled, That Walter Stewart Esquire and Nicho. Di Franchi shall attend the Judges, with their Counsel, touching the Matters formerly referred to them by Order of this House, of the 6th of January, 1645; and that Report thereof shall be made in Writing to this House upon this Day Sevennight, that the House may give such further Directions as shall be just.

Morris to be instituted to Trowell;

Ordered, &c. That Mr. Doctor Aylett, or his lawful Deputy, are hereby authorized and required, upon Sight hereof, to give Institution and Induction unto Rob't Morris Clerk, Master of Arts, secund. Medietat. Ecclesio Parochialis de Trowell, in Com. Nott. void by the Death of John Hirkbie Clerk, the late Incumbent, salvo Jure cujuscunque; the said Mr. Morris taking the National League and Covenant, and producing his Presentation thereunto under the Hand and Seal of Will'm Hacker Esquire, the lawful Patron pleno Jure.

and Thompson to Cranworth cum Litton.

Ordered, &c. That Mr. Doctor Heath, or his lawful Deputy, are hereby authorized and required, upon Sight of this Order, to give Institution and Induction unto Mr. Thomas Thompson Master of Arts, to the Parsonage of Cranworth cum Litton, in the County of Norff. salvo Jure cujuscunque; the said Mr. Thomson taking the National League and Covenant, and producing his Presentation thereunto under the Hand and Seal of William Crane Esquire, Patron.
