Upon reading the Petition of Susanna Bassett, the Widow of Bussy Bassett, Major, deceased; shewing, "That her Husband was employed in the Parliament's Service, for which there is Eight Hundred Pounds due to him; but he lying dead, unburied, for Want of Means to bury him, it is desired that some of his Arrears may be paid, for Burial of him."

It is Ordered, To be specially recommended to the House of Commons; and accordingly it was sent down, by Sir Edw. Leech and Mr. Page.

Montrell, French Agent, a Pass.

Ordered, That Montrell, the French Agent, shall have a Pass, to go to the King, in his Way as he goes into Scotland, about the Affairs of the French King there.

Propositions for a Peace.

The House took into Consideration the Propositions for a safe and well-grounded Peace.

Resolved, That this House agrees, that the First Proposition shall pass as it is brought into this House, in Place of that which was brought from the House of Commons.

Resolved, upon the Question, That this House agrees to the Second Proposition.

The Third Proposition agreed to, with the Alteration of these Words ["a Bill"] instead of ["the Bill"].

Resolved, That this House agrees to the Fourth Proposition.

Resolved, That this House agrees to the Fifth Proposition.

Message from the H. C. with Ordinances.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Ashurst;

To desire Concurrence in these Particulars:

1. An Ordinance for Five Thousand Pounds, for the Leaguer before Chester. (Here enter it.)

2. An Ordinance for paying Monies to Reduced Officers. (Here enter it.)

3. An Ordinance for giving Reparations to Jonathan Hallowes and Ralph Holland, out of the Estates of Sir Christofer Lowther and Mr. John Lamplugh, for their Losses.

Ordered, That this House will take into Consideration the rest of the Propositions on Monday Morning next.

Provision to be made for the Officers of the Court of Wards, when that Court is abolished.

Ordered, That when the Court of Wards and Liveries shall be taken away, that a competent Provision shall be made for the Master of the said Court, and such other Officers there who have adhered to the Parliament, in Lieu of the Offices and Profits which they respectively have thereby; and that in such Sort as both Houses shall think fit.

This to be sent to the House of Commons, for Concurrence.

Ordinance for 5000l. for the Leaguer before Chester.

"The Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament do Order and Ordain, That, towards the Relief and Maintenance of such Forces of Chester and the adjacent Counties that are at the Leaguer of Chester, Five Thousand Pounds be paid in Course, out of the Receipts of the Excise, together with Interest for the same, after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Centum per Annum; and the said Interest-money to be paid, at the End of every Six Months, for so long Time as any Part of the said Sums shall be forborn and unpaid; which said Sum of Five Thousand Pounds, with Interest, the Commissioners of Excise are required and authorized to pay, in Manner as abovesaid, unto John Bradshawe of London, Esquire, and Will'm Edwards of the City of Chester, Alderman, whose Receipt shall be a sufficient Discharge unto the said Commissioners of Excise, and every of them, for the same: And it is further Ordered and Ordained, That the aforesaid Forces shall be equally paid, out of the said Five Thousand Pounds; and if the Commissioners of Excise, or any other well-affected Person or Persons, or any Committees of the aforesaid Counties, shall advance the said Five Thousand Pounds, or any Part thereof, to be paid unto the said John Bradshawe and William Edwards, for the Service aforesaid, by Way of Loan, that they the said Persons, or respective Committees, advancing the same, or any Part thereof, shall be secured all and every such Sums of Money as they shall so advance, and shall be paid the same, with Interest, out of the Receipts of the Excise as aforesaid; and the Receipts of the said John Bradshawe and William Edwards, or any other Person or Persons by their Order and Assignment, under their Hands and Seals, being such as have advanced the same, or any Part thereof, shall be a sufficient Discharge to the Commissioners of Excise and new Impost for Payment of the said Five Thousand Pounds, and every Part and Parcel thereof, with Interest, as aforesaid."

Order for 3000l. for Reduced Officers.

"It is this Day Ordained, by the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, That the Sum of Three Thousand Pounds shall be paid in Course, unto Mr. Francis Vernon, late Deputy Treasurer unto Sir Gilbert Gerrard, out of the Receipts of the Excise and new Impost, upon the Ordinance of the 11th of September, 1643, whereof Two Thousand Six Hundred Eighty-two Pounds, Fourteen Shillings, and Six Pence, is to be by him paid, upon Accompt, unto such Officers as were reduced upon the new-moulding of the Army, by such Proportions as are mentioned in several Lists, subscribed by the Committee of the Army, or any Five of them; and Two Hundred Pounds more thereof to Major Hercules Langrish, upon Accompt, in Part of what is due to him from the State; and Fifty Pounds more thereof to John Swiser, upon Accompt, of what is due to him from the State; and Fifty Pounds more thereof unto Thomas Anderson, upon Accompt, in Part of what is due to him from the State; and the Residue thereof, being Seventeen Pounds, Five Shillings, and Six Pence, unto Captain John Copley, upon Accompt, in Part of what the State oweth him; and the Commissioners of Excise and new Impost are hereby authorized to pay the said Three Thousand Pounds accordingly, in due Order and Course, unto the said Mr. Francis Vernon, his Assignee or Assigns, whose Receipt or Receipts shall be the Commissioners of Excise and every of them their sufficient Discharge in that Behalf: Provided, and be it further Ordained, That if the Commissioners of Excise, or any other well-affected Person or Persons, shall advance the said Three Thousand Pounds, or any Part thereof, to be paid to Mr. Francis Vernon, for the Use or Uses aforesaid, by Way of Loan, that they, the said Persons so advancing the same, or any Part thereof, shall be secured all and every such Sum and Sums of Money as they shall so advance; and shall be paid the same, with Interest, after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Centum, for Forbearance thereof, out of the Receipts of the Excise, in Course as aforesaid; and the Receipt of the said Mr. Francis Vernon, or any other Person or Persons by his Order and Assignment under his Hand and Seal, being such Persons, or their Executors, Administrators, or Assigns, as have advanced the same, or any Part thereof, shall be a sufficient Discharge to the Commissioners of Excise and new Impost, for Payment of the said Three Thousand Pounds, and every Part and Parcel thereof, with Interest, as aforesaid."
