Richard de Bello Fago (fn. 1)

First occ. as archdcn. [c. 1115 × 1119] (Reg. Holme 1 no. 120). (fn. 2) Last occ. [c. 1135] (Early Yorks. Charters IV 12). Archdcn. until became bp. of Avranches, nom. 1134 (Rob. Torigny 1 193), cons. 1135 (Orderici Vitalis Historiae Ecclesiasticae, ed. A. Le Prévost (Paris, 1838-55) v 32, 45; cf. Mon. Ang. vi(2) 699). Occ. as archdcn. of Suffolk after June 1121 (Camb., King's Coll. Muniments B/5), (fn. 3) and also occ. in connection with Suffolk (Regesta 11 nos. 1219, 1783, 1855).

Walkelin

Clk. of Everard, bp. of Norwich (Reg. Holme 1 no. 129). First occ. as archdcn. before 1143 (First Reg. Norw. p. 58). (fn. 4) Last occ. 13 Jan. 1185/6 (cart. of Leiston: B.M., Cotton MS. Vesp. E. xiv fo. 43r). Occ. as archdcn. of Suffolk [1150] (cart. of Blythburgh: B.M., Add. MS. 40725 fo. 16v), and presum. to be identified with W-archdcn., who occ. in connection with Rumburgh (archdcnry. of Suffolk) [1136 × 43] (cart. of South Elmham: Bodl., MS. Top. Suff. d. 15 fo. 38r-v). (fn. 5) He must have been the successor of Richard de Bello Fago, because he occ. together with archdcns. William I (of Norwich), Roger [of Norfolk] and William son of Humphrey [of Sudbury] (H.M.C., Lothian MSS. (1905) p. 40), who all occ. temp. Richard de Bello Fago (Reg. Holme 1 no. 124).

Geoffrey (fn. 6)

First occ. as archdcn. 1192/3 (cart. of Stoke by Clare: B.M., Cotton MS. App. xxi fo. 40r). Last occ. 1210 (Pipe Roll 12 John (Pipe Roll Soc., new ser. xxvi) p. 34). Occ. as archdcn. of Suffolk many times; and also called archdcn. of Ipswich (e.g. Epp. Cant. no. 38).

M. R- de Tywa

Occ. without title 31 May 1213 (Innocent III, Cal. Letters no. 1157 n.). First occ., as R- de Tywa, archdcn. of Ipswich, 30 Sept. 1214 (Ecclesiastical Documents, ed. J. Hunter (Camden Soc., 1840) p. 61). Presum. to be identified with R- archdcn. of Suffolk who occ. 16 Nov. 1214 and M. R-archdcn. of Suffolk who occ. 26 Nov. 1214 (Rot. Litt. Pat. pp. 123, 124b). Presum. also occ. as M. A- de Tyua, archdcn. of Suffolk, [c. 1202 × 1217] (see Innocent III, Cal. Letters no. 1157 n.). (fn. 7)

An unnamed archdcn. of Suffolk occ. Oct. 1219 (C.R.R. viii 30).

M. Robert de Tywa

Occ. without title many times between 22 March 1205 (First Reg. Norw. p. 120) and 24 Jan. 1227 (ibid. p. 116), so perhaps not to be identified with M. R- de Tywa (above). First certain occ. as archdcn. 6 Apr. 1227 (First Reg. Norw. p. 118). Last occ. 1 Apr. 1235 (Norwich, Reg. I fo. 230v, date incompletely pd. in First Reg. Norw. p. 124).

An unnamed archdcn. of Suffolk occ. 24 Aug. 1236 (C.P.R. 1232-47 p. 157).

M. Alexander de Walpole

Occ. without title June 1235 (Norfolk Portion of the Chartulary of Lewes, ed. J. H. Bullock (Norfolk Record Soc. xii) no. 146; cf. ibid. no. 112, where he occ. as proctor of Lewes priory (Sussex) in 1219). Occ. as archdcn. twice only: 11 June 1240 (ibid. no. 147) and 1241/2 (ibid. no. 149).

M. Roger Pincerna alias Le Boteler

Transf. from archdcnry. of Sudbury, where last occ. Apr. 1242 (below p. 70), by 27 May 1242 (Norwich, ch. 1718). Last occ. 1 Sept. [1246] (cart. of Waltham: B.M., Harley MS. 391 fo. 111v).

Archdcn. of Surrey, coll. 11 Nov. 1296; d. before 12 March 1301 (below p. 95). Perhaps related to Roger de Skerning, successively prior of Norwich (1257-66) and bp. (1266-78).

M. Saer

Occ. once only, 3 Feb. 1299 (Norwich, chs. 100, 227). Perhaps to be identified with an unnamed archdcn. who occ. 1 Oct. 1306 (Norwich, Norf. and Norwich R.O., Reg. J. Salmon fo. 21v), but had certainly ceased to be archdcn. by 10 Jan. 1311, when Simon of Ely coll. (ibid. fo. 45r).
