According to an Order of the Thirtieth of July, Mr. Greene made Report from the Committee for the Customers.

Resolved, upon the Question, That this House holds it fit, that this Report now made by Mr. Greene, from the Committee for the Customers, shall be resumed Tomorrow Morning at Eight of Clock.

Impeachment of the Bishops.

Serjeant Wilde reports from the Committee appointed to prepare the Impeachment against the Bishops, as followeth:

I am commanded by the Knights, Citizens, and Burgesses, in the Commons House of Parliament assembled, in the Names of themselves, and of all the Commons of England, to make known to your Lordships, That Wm. Laud Archbishop of Cant', Matthew Wren Bishop of Ely, Wm. Peers Bishop of Bath and Wells, and other the Bishops hereafter named, &c. * * * * together with the rest of the Clergy of the several Provinces of Canterbury and York, at their several Synods and Convocations, for the said respective Provinces, begun at London and York in the Year 1640, did make and contrive several Canons and Constitutions Ecclesiastical, containing in them divers Matters contrary to the King's Prerogative, to the fundamental Laws and Statutes of the Realm, the Rights of Parliament, the Propriety and Liberty of the Subject; and Matters tending to Sedition, and of dangerous Consequence: And did also, at their said several Synods, make several Grants of Benevolences and Contributions to his Majesty; and accordingly, the said Canons, and the said Grants of Benevolences, were put in Execution, contrary to the Law, to the great Oppression of the Clergy of this Realm, and other his Majesty's Subjects: For all which Matters and Things, the said Commons do impeach the said Archbishops, and other the said Bishops, of high Crimes and Misdemeanours, of a transcendent Nature; and do therefore pray, that they may be forthwith put to their Answers, in the Presence of the said Commons.

Mr. Wheeler, Mr. Pury, Mr. Perd, are appointed to search the Register's Books of the Entries of the Acts of the last Convocation: And likewise, to command the Register of such other Clerks and Deputies as did attend there, to attend the House; and to bring with them the original Book, and the transcribed Copies.

Conference.

Lord Dungarvon went up with the Message for a Conference with the Lords, according to the Order that appointed Sir Gilbert Gerrard to go Yesterday.

Lord Dungarvon brings Answer, that the Lords will give a present Meeting, as is desired.

Leave of Absence.

Sir Theobalt Gorge has Leave to go into the Country.

Mr. Heblethwaite has Leave to go into the Country, on Monday next.

Conference.

Mr. Hollis, and the rest of the Managers of the Conference, went up to the Committee of the Lords.

Complaints from Ireland.

Ordered, That the Committee appointed to prepare the Transmission of several Causes concerning Complaints out of Ireland, do sit To-morrow at Two of Clock in the Court of Wards.

Members fined.

Ordered, That Sir John Evelyn, Mr. Strode, and Mr. Nicholls, are to go and take the Names of such Members as do now stay behind in the Painted Chamber: And likewise, it is Ordered, That such of the Members, whose Names are returned by them, shall pay Five Shillings apiece.

Committee of both Houses.

The Lord Herbert is appointed to go up to the Lords, to desire, that the Committee of that House may meet the Committee of this House, about the Ten Heads, at such Time as their Lordships shall think fit.

Impeachment of the Judges.

Ordered, That Sir Tho. Barrington shall, To-morrow Morning, desire a Conference with the Lords, concerning the Judges, that have been impeached by this House.

Sir John Colpepper and Mr. Hide are appointed Managers of this Conference; and to desire, that, if the Commissions be issued forth, that they may be suppressed; and to quicken the Lords, in the Impeachment against them.

Members fined.

Ordered, That all these Gentlemen, whose Names are here returned by Sir John Evelyn, shall pay Five Shillings apiece; and that the Clerk shall demand the said Five Shillings of the said Gentlemen accordingly.

Proceedings concerning Wilson.

The humble Petition of Wm. Wilson, a Prisoner in the Gatehouse, was read: And it was thereupon

Ordered, That the said Wilson be examined, by the Committee for the Popish Hierarchy, to the Point of Collecting and Conveying of Contributions and Maintenance to the English Seminaries and Nunneries beyond the Seas; and concerning his Seducing the King's People: And that they shall meet this Afternoon, at Two of Clock, in the Inner Court of Wards.

Sir Henry Mildmay and Mr. Lawrence Whitaker are added to this Committee: And Mr. Serjeant is appointed to bring the said Wilson before that Committee.

Abolishing Episcopacy.

Ordered, That the House shall sit this Afternoon, at Three of Clock, to be resolved into a Grand Committee, to proceed with the Bill concerning Episcopacy.

Remonstrances on State of the Kingdom, &c.

Mr. Pym, Sir John Colpepper, Sir Hen. Vane, Mr. Hampden, Mr. Fines, Mr. Strode, Sir Walter Erle, Mr. Solicitor;

This Committee is to bring in Remonstrances, of the State of the Kingdom, and of the Church, by Friday next, peremptorily: And have Power to sit when they please; and to adjourn at their own Discretions.

Tonage and Poundage.

Ordered, That on Thursday Morning next at Eight of Clock, the Bill of Tonage and Poundage, and the Book of Rates shall be taken into Consideration: And Mr. Speaker is to put the House in mind of this Order, &c.

Ecclesiastical Canons.

Resolved, upon the Question, That Mr. Wheeler shall make Report of the Business concerning the Names of such Bishops as were present at the Making of the last new Canons and Oath, this Afternoon.

Customs on Tobaccoes.

RESOLVED, &c. That this House holds it fit, that all such Petitioners about Tobaccoes of Somer Islands, and other English Plantations, &c. as have had their Ships and Tobaccoes taken on the Seas, or by Commanders of any of his Majesty's Forts and Castles, and Men put into them; or by any of them enforced to enter Bond to bring their Ships and Goods to London; or otherwise enforced to land their Tobaccoes in any other Port, and by any of the Farmers Officers detained; ought to have their Tobaccoes delivered them, without Payment of any Customs, or other Duties, for Warehouse-room or otherwise; and for such of them as have been compelled to pay any Sums of Money, or given Bonds for the Payment of Monies, that the Officers, which received their Monies or Bonds, ought to make them Restitution thereof.

Resolved, &c.... Thought fit, that all Tobaccoes of any English Plantations now remaining in any Warehouses, in the Custody of any Officers of the Custom-house, either in the Port of London, or otherwise, and not brought in by Force, as before, shall pay after the Rate of Two Pence per Pound for Custom, for all such as is merchantable, and not corrupt and wholly decayed.

Printing.

Ordered, That the Committee for Printing be joined to the Committee for Examination and Printing of Books; and that both the Committees, so joined, shall consider of that Bill: And Mr. Grimston is added to that Committee: And they are to meet To-morrow at Six of Clock, in the Star-chamber.

Browne's Petition.

Ordered, That the Committee for Monopolists, where Mr. Pelham has the Chair, sit on Friday, in the Duchycourt, to consider of the Petition of Mr. Browne; and it is revived, as to that Business only.

Mr. Wheeler reports from the Committee appointed to search the Register's Books, as followeth:

Popish Recusants.

That the Committee for the Bill for preventing the Dangers that may happen by Popish Recusants, which returned from the Lords with some Amendments, do meet To-morrow in the Afternoon, at Two of Clock, in the Duchy-court.

Abolishing Episcopacy.

According to an Order made this Forenoon, the House was resolved into a Committee.
