PREBEND

Church of St. Botolph, High St., Lincoln, with property in High St., first called preb. 1230 × 39 (R.A.L. IX nos. 2472-3). Presum. preb. before gr. of remaining Lincoln churches to precentor, prob. second half of 1147 (list 3; cf. Med. Linc. p. 146). Dedication indicates pre-Conquest origin, so prob. one of city churches held by priests of cathedral and gr. by king Henry I 1100 × 07, ? June 1107 (Regesta II no. 821 = R.A.L. I no. 45) and conf. as preb. by pope 6 Feb. 1146 (R.A.L. I no. 252 p. 198) and 5 June 1163 (ibid. no. 255 p. 205).

Richard de Wisbech (fn. 1)

First certain occ. as can. 1 Apr. 1236 (Rot. Grosseteste pp. 163, 391). Occ. as this preb. 1230 × 39 (R.A.L. IX nos. 2472-3). Last occ. 17 May 1254 × 5 June 1256 (ibid. II no. 387; for date see X p. xli).

Henry de Winchcombe (fn. 2)

Occ. as this preb. 1275 (Rot. Hund. I 328b). No other occ. Perhaps an error for Richard de Winchcombe, below.

Richard de Winchcombe (fn. 2)

First occ. as can. 9 March 1284 (L.S. I 286-7). Last occ. 20 June 1303 (cart. Warter: Bodl., MS. Fairfax 9 fo. 24r). D. as this preb. by 7 Dec. 1303 (Reg. II fo. 277v).
