Answer from the H. C.
Sir Edward Leech and Mr. Page return with this Answer from the House of Commons, to the Message delivered on Saturday last:
That they did agree to the Letter to be sent into Scotland: (Here enter it.) And to Mr. Marshall and Mr. Strange to be desired to go with the Commissioners into Scotland: But as to the Ordinance authorizing the Commissioners, to go into Scotland, and to their Instructions; and also to the Papers that came from the Scotch Commissioners, they will send an Answer by Messengers of their own.
E. of Suffolk, and Sir R. Hitcham's Executors.
Ordered, That Counsel on both Sides, between the Earl of Suffolke and Mr. Keeble, &c. shall be heard To-morrow, concerning the Statute of 4 H. IV. Cap. 23.
L. Conway to go to Warwick, &c.
Ordered, That the Lord Viscount Conway hath Leave to go to Warwicke and Coventry, and to return again to London, notwithstanding his former Limitation by this House.
Jackson sent for, for Contempt.
Upon reading the Affidavit of Clement Kirke; shewing, "That he served the Order of this House upon Startupp, Jackson, commanding him to appear (fn. 1) before this House, to answer the Complaint made against him by James Linsey, Marshal and Keeper of The Marshalles Prison."
It is Ordered, That the said Startupp Jackson, for his Contempt to the Order of this House, shall be attached, and brought before this House, to answer the same.
L. Powis requests a Maintenance.
Upon reading a Letter of the Lord Powis, from Stafford, written to the Earl of Pembrooke: It is Ordered, That it be sent to the House of Commons, with a Desire that it may be referred to the Committee of Lords and Commons for Sequestrations, for to consider what Allowance to give him for his Maintenance.
Message from the H. C. with an Account of Sir T. Fairefax's Victory over Gen. Goring's Army at Langport.
A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Nicolls, &c.
To acquaint their Lordships with a Letter written to the Speaker of the House of Commons, from Mr. Ash and Mr. Moore, dated the 11th July, from Middlesway; giving a Narrative of the Victory obtained by the Army under the Conduct of Sir Tho. Fairefax at Langport, in Somersettshire, against General Goring's Forces.
for a Thanksgiving for it;
2. To desire Concurrence, that Friday the 22th of July shall be a Day of Public Thanksgiving, for the late Victory obtained near Langport, in Som'settshire.
Agreed to.
and for Capt. Potter to be a Commissioner.
3. To desire that Captain Potter be a Commissioner, in the Place of his Brother, formerly a Commissioner, and slain in the Service at Naseby Field.
Agreed to.

Message to the H. C. about observing the Thanksgiving.
Ordered, That the Thanksgiving shall be kept at St. Martin's Church; and Mr. Ward and Mr. Sedgwicke are appointed to preach before both Houses; and to send to the House of Commons, to desire their Concurrence therein.
And accordingly a Message was sent to the House of Commons presently, by Dr. Heath, &c.
Ordinance to appoint the Commissioners for the Navy.
Next, an Ordinance was presented to the House, by the Earl of Northumb. concerning appointing of Commissioners for the Navy: And it being read Twice, it is Ordered to be committed to the Committee of the whole House, and to be taken into Consideration Tomorrow Morning.
Papers about Church Government.
Ordered, That the Papers which were brought from the Assembly of Divines, concerning the Government of the Church, shall be taken into Consideration on Wednesday Morning next.
Steward's Cause.
Ordered, That Attachments be granted against such Persons against whom Judgement was given in Mr. Steward's Case, as shall appear by Affidavits that they have been served with the said Judgement and Obedience required thereunto.
Crawford to be Colonel Brown's L. Colonel.
Ordered, To send to The House of Commons, to desire that Major Crawford be Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel Browne, in Lyncolneshire; he being recommended by the Gentlemen of that Country.
Col. Rossiter's Ordinance to exercise Martial Law, &c.
An Ordinance to give Power of Martial Law to Colonel Rossiter, to govern the Forces in Lyncolneshire, was brought in, and read Twice.
Letter to the Parliament of Scotland, that Commissioners are going there with Propositions.
"My Lords,
"We have appointed Commissioners from both Houses of the Parliament of England, to repair to the Parliament now sitting, with Propositions much concerning the Service of both Kingdoms: They will be with you with what Speed they can conveniently. We remain."
