His Majesty's Answer to the Petition against Recusants reported.

THE Lord Keeper reported the King's Answer, which he made unto the Petition against Recusants, at the Delivery of the said Petition unto His Majesty, by both Houses, at Whitehall, Yesterday in the Afternoon.

The Effect whereof was, "That His Majesty would take further Time to give His Answer; but He liked very well the Beginning and Proceeding of this Parliament, quia a Jove principium; and therefore He hopes for a good Success thereof. He well liked the general Scope of this Petition, for that it was for the Maintainance of true Religion, whereof none should be more zealous than He; that He had ever lived in it, and would die in it. The Petition consisted of many Points; and therefore He would take Time to advise thereof, and would give further Answer to it hereafter, which shall be such as shall give them full Satisfaction."

Then His Majesty did put the Two Houses in Mind, That the Time of Year slips away; and, if their Supply be not speedy, He shall not be able to put a Ship to Sea.
