Stockbridge Writ.
ORDERED, That Mr. Speaker do issue his Warrant to the Clerk of the Crown, to make out a new Writ for the electing a Burgess to serve in this present Parliament for the Borough of Stockbridge in the County of Southampton, in the room of Wm. Mountague, Esquire, deceased.
Ailesbury Election.
A Petition of James Herbert, Esquire, was read; setting forth, That on the Sixth Instant the Petitioner was duly elected a Burgess for the Town of Ailesbury, in the County of Bucks, by the Majority of the qualified Voters; yet the Constables of the Place, who are the proper Officers to return Precepts, after many undue Practices, have returned Mr. Syman Mayne contrary to Right: And praying the Relief of the House in the Premises.
Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Petition be referred to the Committee of Privileges and Elections; Who are to examine the Matter thereof; and report the same with their Opinions therein, to the House.
Melcom Regis Writ.
Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do issue his Warrant to the Clerk of the Crown, to make out a new Writ for the electing a Burgess to serve in this present Parliament for the Borough of Melcom Regis in the County of Dorsett, in the room of Nicholas Gould, Esquire, deceased.
Privilege.
A Complaint being made to the House, That John Tovy, Sam. Tovy, and Ralph Browning, had assaulted, wounded, and evilly intreated George Hawkins, a menial Servant of Sir Wm. Whitlock, knowing him to be such, in Breach of the Privilege of this House;
Ordered, That the said John Tovy, Samuell Tovy and Ralph Browning, be sent for in Custody of the Serjeant at Arms attending this House, to answer the said Breach of Privilege.
Privilege-Persons in Custody discharged.
Several Petitions of Henry Moore, John Lawrence, and Wm. Armstrong, in Custody of the Serjeant at Arms attending this House, upon a Complaint of a Breach of Privilege committed against Henry Guy, Esquire, a Member of this House, were read; thereby making their humble Acknowledgement of their Offences; and praying to be discharged.
Ordered, That they be brought to the Bar of this House, in order to their Discharge.
And they were brought to the Bar accordingly: Where they received a Reprimand from Mr. Speaker upon their Knees.
Ordered, That the said Hen. Moore, John Lawrence, and Wm. Armstrong, be discharged out of Custody, paying their Fees.
Privilege in a Suit against a Member.
A Complaint being made to the House, That one Broadwater, a Bailiff of the Marshalsea, had arrested Cha. Godolphin, Esquire, a Member of this House, instead of another Person named in the Writ, at the Suit of one Samuell White, in Breach of the Privilege of this House.
Ordered, That the said Samuell White, and * Broadwater, be summoned by the Serjeant at Arms to attend this House at their next Sitting, to answer the said Breach of Privilege.
Ditto.
A Complaint being made to the House, That Samuell Hughes, and William Philipps, Esquires, Walter Thornborough, an Attorney at Law, and Francis Meare, had, by a Prosecution at Law in the last great Sessions for the County of Pembrooke, endeavoured to turn Richard Viscount Bulkly of the Kingdom of Ireland, a Member of this House, out of Possession of Part of his Estate;
Ordered, That it be referred to Mr. Speaker to examine the said Matter: And that the said Persons do attend him in order thereunto: And that he do report the same, with his Opinion therein, to the House, at the next Sitting of the House.
Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do write a Letter to the Prothonotary, That he do not make out, and to the Sheriff of the County of Pembrooke, That he do not execute, any Writ, whereby the Lord Bulklye's Possession may be disturbed, until Mr. Speaker shall have examined and reported the Matters to the House; and this House take further Order therein.
Adjournment.
Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer acquaints the House, That his Majesty had thought fit that the Parliament should be adjourned for a Month longer: And that therefore it was his Majesty's Desire, That this House would adjourn itself until Tuesday the Six-and-twentieth Day of May next.
And accordingly the House did adjourn until Tuesday the Twenty-sixth Day of May next, at Ten of the Clock in the Morning.
