Debtors Relief.

A Petition of many poor Prisoners was presented to the House.

Ordered, That the Bill for Relief of poor Prisoners be read upon Saturday Morning next.

Berenger's Estate.

An ingrossed Bill from the Lords, intituled, An Act to enable Thomas Berenger, Esquire, to sell Lands for Payment of his Debts, was read the First time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time.

Dr. Tillotson thanked.

Ordered, That the Thanks of this House be given to Doctor Tillotson, Dean of St. Paul's, for the Sermon preached before this House Yesterday; and that he be desired to print the same: And that Sir Edmund Jennings do acquaint him therewith.

Edwards' Estate.

An ingrossed Bill from the Lords, intituled, An Act whereby the Freehold and Inheritance of the Manor of Loleworth alias Lollworth, and the Advowson of the Church of Lollworth, in the County of Cambridge, and divers other Lands and Hereditaments in Loleworth aforesaid, and in Long Stanton in the said County, are vested in Altham Smith, of Greys Inne in the County of Middlesex, Esquire, and Wm. Gore, of London, Merchant, and their Heirs, in Fee-simple in Possession, to the Use of them, and their Heirs, in Trust for John Edwards, of Debden Hall in the County of Essex, Esquire, and his Heirs, to the Intent the same may be sold, was read the Second time.

Resolved, That the Bill be committed to Sir Geo. Hutchins, Mr. Gilbert, Mr. Dalben, Sir John Barker, Mr. Fuller, Major Vincent, Mr. Glemham, Mr. Beddingfeild, Mr. Baile, Mr. Blowfeild, Mr. Gwyn, Mr. Lampton, Mr. Freke, Sir Sam. Bernadiston, Mr. Harcourt, Sir Tho. Darcy, Mr. Fenwick, Mr. Lewes, Mr. Paul Foley, Mr. Clerke, Mr. Buscawen, Serjeant Blincowe, Sir Thomas Littleton, Mr. Ogle, Mr. Hutchinson, and all the Members that serve for the Counties of Cambridge and Essex: And they are to meet this Afternoon at Three of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber.

Bedford Return amended.

The House being informed, that the Bailiff of the Town of Bedford, and the Clerk of the Crown, attended at the Door, to amend the Return for the Borough of Bedford;

They were called in; and amended the Return accordingly, by taking from off the File the Indenture by which Mr. Hillersden and Sir Wm. Francklyn were returned; and by the Bailiff's inserting his Name, and signing the Indenture by which Mr. Hillersden and Mr. Christy were returned.

Duke of Buckingham's Estate.

Sir Wm. Whitlock reports from the Committee to whom the Bill for the better enabling the Trustees of George late Duke of Bucks to sell several Lands and Tenements settled on them, for Payment of Debts, was referred, That they had agreed to the Bill, with some Amendments: Which he read in his Place, with the Coherence; and afterwards delivered them in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout.

And the First Amendment being read a Second time;

A Petition of John Villers, an Infant, was read; setting forth, That George late Duke of Bucks, being seised of divers Manors and Lands, settled several of them on Trustees for Payment of his Debts, with Interest: But that, by several Conveyances, the Trusts were vested in Sir Rob. Clayton, John Wildman, Martin Clifford, and Doctor Spratt, now Bishop of Rochester, and their Heirs: That, since such last Transfer, Clifford, one of the said Trustees, died: That the Creditors have brought a Bill into this House, to have the Premises, so settled, sold for Payment of Debts: That the Petitioner, being Heir at Law to the Duke, is thereby intitled to the Equity of Redemption, and Surplussage of the said Estate; but is willing the said Debts should be paid: That the said surviving Trustees, though Men of great Value and Justice, are altogether Strangers to the Petitioner; and he hath Persons of great Quality of his Blood and Family, who from that Obligation (the Petitioner hath reason to believe), will take a more especial Care of him in the Sale of the Estate: And the Petitioner being desirous to be educated in the Protestant Religion, and praying the House to add Three Trustees of the Petitioner's Blood and Family to the said Three surviving Trustees, That due Care may be had in the Sale of the Estate, and that a Clause may be added in the Bill for appointing the Petitioner Protestant Guardians, that he may thereby be educated in the Protestant Religion.

Resolved, That the Bill be re-committed to the same Committee: And they are to meet this Afternoon at Three of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber.

Ordered, That Mr. Harcourt, Mr. Musgrave, Mr. Mannaton, Sir Tho. Travell, Sir Jos. Tredenham, Sir Tho. Clarges, Sir Cha. Bloys, Sir Wm. Turner, Mr. Gwyn, Mr. Walpole, Mr. Etterick, Sir Sam. Dashwood, Mr. Felton, Mr. Done, Mr. Cooke, Major Vincent, Mr. Blowfeild, Sir Sam. Johnson, Sir Wm. Poultney, Mr. Chaffin, Sir Tho. Fowles, Mr. Cary, Sir John Raymond, Mr. Kent, Mr. Bulkly, Mr. Godolphin, be added to the said Committee.

Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Petition of the said John Villers be referred to the Committee to whom the Bill for the better enabling the Trustees of the Duke of Bucks to sell several Lands and Tenements, for Payment of his Debts, is committed.

Supply Bill; Forfeitures.

Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Bill to vest the Five hundred Pounds Forfeitures in their Majesties.

And it is referred to Sir Tho. Lee, Sir Jos. Tredenham, Mr. Greenville, Sir John Lowther, Sir Tho. Clarges, Mr. Solicitor General, Sir John Guise, Mr. Chancellor of Exchequer, Sir Wm. Strickland, Serjeant Tremaine, Sir Edw. Seymour, or any Five of them, to prepare and bring in the Bill: And it is to be an Instruction to the said Committee, That they do prepare the same upon the Debate of the House.

A Message from the Lords, by Mr. Meredith and Mr. Keck;

Coventry's Estate.

Mr. Speaker, The Lords have passed a Bill, intituled, An Act to supply a Defect in a former Act of the last Parliament, for the Sale or Leasing of a House, late Henry Coventrye's, Esquire, in Piccadilly, without any Amendments.

Wolstenholme's Estate.

They have also passed a Bill, intituled, An Act to enable John Wolstenholme, Esquire, to sell Lands for Payment of Debts, without any Amendments.

House reminded of a Bill.

They have also commanded us to put this House in mind of a Bill sent down from their Lordships some time since, concerning the regulating the Prices of Coals.

And then the Messengers withdrew.

Sheriffs of London refused admission with a Petition.

The House being informed, that the Sheriffs of the City of London attended at the Door, to present a Petition to the House;

And the Question being put, That the Sheriffs of the City of London be called in;

The House divided.

The Yeas go forth.

So it passed in the Negative.

Supply Bill; Excise.

Then the House resolved into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of the Bill for settling the Excise upon Their Majesties.

Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer reports from the Committee of the whole House, That they had agreed to the Bill, with some Amendments, which they had directed him to report to the House: And he read the same in his Place, with the Coherence; and afterwards, delivered them in at the Clerk's Table: Where they were once read throughout; and afterwards a Second time, one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

Ordered, That the Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.

Supply Bill; Poll Tax.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Miles Cooke and Mr. Keck;

Mr. Speaker, The Lords have passed a Bill, intituled, An Act for raising Money by a Poll, and otherwise, towards the Reducing of Ireland, and prosecuting the War against France, with some Amendments: To which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

And then the Messengers withdrew.

Then the Amendments were read; and are as followeth; viz.

Press *, Line * after "*," insert Clauses "A:" Which were read the First time; and were, for several of the Lords to be Commissioners for the Assessing the Peers, and for the Lords to appoint a Receiver of the Monies payable by the Peers.

Then the Clauses were read a Second time; and, upon the Question put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

Ordered, That Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer do go to the Lords, and acquaint them, That this House hath agreed to the said Amendments.

Earl of Essex's Estate.

Ordered, That it be an Instruction to the Committee to whom the ingrossed Bill from the Lords, intituled, An Act to enable Algernoone Earl of Essex to make a Wife a Jointure, and for Raising of Six thousand Pounds borrowed to make up the Lady Morpeth's Portion, is committed, That the Earl, by the said Bill, be also enabled to make Provision for Children.

Wynne's Estate.

Ordered, That Mr. Harcourt, Serjeant Wogan, Mr. Beddingfeild, Mr. Brewer, Serjeant Hutchins, Mr. Fenwick, be added to the Committee to whom the Bill for vesting the Estate of Cadwallader Wynne, Esquire, in Trustees for Payment of his Debts, is referred.

London Orphans.

Resolved, That this House will, This Day sevennight at Ten of the Clock in the Morning, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of Ways to satisfy the Debts due to the Orphans of the City of London.

Ordered, That Colonel Roll do, upon Monday Morning next, attend in his Place, to make his Election for which Place he will serve; whether as Knight of the Shire for the County of Devon, or as Burgess for the Borough of Penyrn in the County of Cornwall.
