Southwarke Court of Conscience.

A BILL to erect a Court of Conscience for the Borough of Southwarke, and Parishes within the weekly Bills of Mortality in the County of Surrey, was read the First time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time.

Middleton's Wife's Maintenance.

An ingrossed Bill, from the Lords, intituled, An Act to confirm a Settlement made by Sir Hugh Middleton, Baronet, for a separate Maintenance for Dame Dorothea his Wife, and for other Trusts; and for the better enabling Trustees to sell Part of his Estate for Payment of his Debts; was read the First time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time.

Earl of Essex's Estate.

An ingrossed Bill from the Lords, intituled, An Act to enable Algernoone Earl of Essex to make a Wife a Jointure, and for raising of Monies for Payment of Six thousand Pounds borrowed to make up the Lady Morpeth's Portion, was read the Second time.

Resolved, That the said Bill be committed unto Mr. Serjeant Wogan, Mr. Boscawen, Mr. Hawtry, Sir Tho. Littleton, Mr. Windham, Mr. Beddingfeild, Mr. Fenwick, Mr. Harcourt, Sir John Guise, Sir Rob. Duke of Buckingham's Estate.

Ordered, That the Report touching the Bill for the better enabling the Trustees of the late Duke of Buckingham to sell several Lands and Tenements settled on them, to pay his Debts, be made on Thursday Morning next.

Information of Papists being in Arms.

The House being informed, that one Mr. Cuddon was at the Door, that could give Information of some Papists being in Arms in the North;

He was called in to the Bar; and acquainted the House with a Letter he had received from Newcastle, dated the Eleventh Instant: Which was read.

And being withdrawn;

Ordered, That Mr. Cuddon do attend the Members of this House that serve for the County of Northumberland: And that they acquaint the Earl of Shrewsbury with the said Information.

Supply Bill; Tonage, &c.

A Bill for granting to their Majesties a Subsidy of Tonage and Poundage, and other Sums of Money payable upon Merchandize exported or imported, was read the Second time.

Resolved, That the Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House.

Supply Bill; Excise.

A Bill for granting to their Majesties, for their Lives, and the Life of the Survivor of them, certain Impositions upon Beer, Ale, and other Liquors, was read the Second time.

Resolved, That the Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House.

Ditto.

Ordered, That Mr. Sacheverell have Leave to bring in a Clause to repeal the Acts which settled the Tonage and Poundage, and the Excise, upon the late King James for Life.

Leave for Members to attend Lords.

Ordered, That Mr. Finch have Leave to attend the Lords, as Counsel, in a Cause between the Earl of Macclesfeild and Starky.

A Member to make his Election.

Ordered, That Colonel Roll, who is returned one of the Knights of the Shire for the County of Devon, and also one of the Burgesses for the Borough of Penryn in the County of Cornwall, do, upon Thursday Morning next, make his Election for which Place he will serve.

Information communicated to Earl Shrewsbury.

Mr. Bickerstaffe acquaints the House, That he, with Mr. Cuddon, had attended the Earl of Shrewsbury: And that his Lordship declared all imaginable Care should be taken in that Matter.

Bedford Return.

Ordered, That the Mayor and Bailiffs of the Town of Bedford, and the Clerk of the Crown, do attend this House upon Thursday Morning next, to amend the Return of Burgesses to serve for the said Town: And that the Serjeant at Arms do then make his Return of the Execution of the Warrants against the said Mayor, and the Under Sheriff of the said County of Bedford.

Lewknor's Wife's illegitimate Children.

Mr. Speaker, The Lords have agreed to the Bill, intituled, An Act to illegitimate any Child or Children that Jane the Wife of John Lewknor, Esquire, hath had, or shall have, during her Elopement from him, without any Amendments.

Great Marlow Sale of Lands.

Also, that the Lords have passed a Bill, intituled, An Act for the Sale of the Capital Messuage or Mansion House of Harleford, and Manor of Great Marlow, and other Lands in the County of Bucks: To which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

And then the Messengers withdrew.

Book of Rates respecting Linen, &c.

Then the Order of the Twelfth Instant, for the House to consider of a Motion then made, and of the Book of Rates, and the Balance of Trade; and, in the first place, of Linen, Silk, Wine, and Brandy, whereby to encourage our Allies, and discourage the Trade with France; and to encourage and advance our own Manufacture; was read.

Resolved, That a Committee be appointed to consider of the Book of Rates, and the Balance of Trade relating to Linen, Silk, Wine, and Brandy; and to report their Opinions therein to the House, with all convenient Speed.

Resolved, That this House will, upon Thursday Morning next, at Ten of the Clock, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of the Bill for settling the Excise upon their Majesties.

French Linens, &c.

Resolved, That this House will, upon Tuesday Morning next, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of the Motion made on Saturday last, for the Continuance of the Impositions on all French Linens, Silks, and Stuffs; and on all East India Linens, Silks, and Stuffs; and several other Manufactures.

Committee of Privileges.

Ordered, That the Committee of Privileges and Elections be adjourned till Wednesday in Easter Week.

Paper Manufacture.

A Petition of the Lady Theodosia Ivy, Widow, was read; setting forth, That the Petitioner, about Eight Years since, with a considerable Sum of Money, . . . purchased several Patents, which were granted to Eustase Barnaby and Nathan. Bladen, Esquires; the first that were ever granted for the making of White Paper for Writing and Printing within this Kingdom; which are not yet expired: And praying to be heard by her Counsel, against the Bill brought into this House for settling and encouraging the Paper Manufacture, before the same do pass.

Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Petition be referred to the Committee to whom the Bill for the encouraging and better establishing the Manufacture of White Paper in this Kingdom, is referred.

Prideaux's Claim on Lord Jeffryes.

A Bill to charge the Manors of Dalby and Broughton in the County of Leicester, the Estate of the late Lord Jeffryes, with the Payment of Fourteen thousand Seven hundred and Sixty Pounds, and Interest, to Edm. Prideaux, Esquire, was presented to the House; and received.

Earl of Shaftsbury's Estate.

An ingrossed Bill from the Lords, intituled, An Act for making some Provision for the Daughters and younger Sons of Anthony Earl of Shaftsbury, was read the First time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time.

Ordered, That all Committees be revived.
