Prayers.

Papists Benefices.

SIR Robert Sawyer reports from the Committee to whom the ingrossed Bill, sent down from the Lords, intituled, An Act to vest in the Two Universities the Presentations to Benefices belonging to Papists, was referred, that the Committee had thought fit to make several Amendments to the Bill: Which he read in his Place, with the Coherence; and afterwards delivered the same in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same, being twice read; were, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House; and are as followeth;

P. 1, L. 25, after the word "who," and before the Word "shall," leave out these Words, "from and after the First Day of September next."

P. 1, L. 28, after the Word "Declaration," and before the Word "in," insert the Word "mentioned."

P. 1, L. 39, after the Word "Quarter," and before the Word "to," leave out the Word "Sessessions;" and, instead thereof, insert the Word "Sessions."

P.2, L.1, after the Word "the," and before the Word "adjudged," in the Second Line, leave out these Words, "said First Day of September;" and, instead thereof, insert "Time of such Record made."

P. 2, L. 13, after the Word "Cambridge," and before the Word "shall," add these Words, "by what Name or Names soever they, or either of them, are incorporated."

P. 2, L. 25, after the Words "and provided," insert the Three Provisoes; viz.

"That if any Person be a Trustee for a Papist convicted by this Act, the Presentation of such Trustee shall be void; and if such Trustee, without Notice to the Vice Chancellor, present, that he shall forfeit Five hundred Pounds to that University who ought to present." And

"That the Universities shall not present any Person that hath another Benefice with Cure; and, if he do, the same to be void." And

"That, if any Person presented be absent above Sixty Days in a Year, the Place to be void."

P. 2, L. 43, after the Word "Living," and before the Word "as," insert the Words "School or Hospital."

Ordered, That the Clauses be ingrossed.

Privilege.

Then the Order for hearing the Breach of Privilege, complained of by Mr. Palmes, against Mr. Thorpe an Attorney, was read.

And, the Question being put, That the Report from the Committee of Privileges, touching the Breach of Privilege formerly complained of between Sir Richard Temple and Mr. Palmes be now read;

It passed in the Negative.

And the House proceeded to hear the Case between the said Mr. Palmes and the said Thorpe: And, after Examination of the said Thorpe, and the Persons produced against him at the Bar of the House, there did not appear to be any Breach of Privilege in the said Thorpe.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Sir Roger Bradshaw have Leave to go into the Country for a Month.

Leave for Member to attend Lords.

Ordered, That Sir John Trevor have Leave to attend the Bar of the House of Lords, as Counsel in a Cause between Mill and Noy.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Mr. Ramsden have Leave to go into the Country for a Month.

Ordered, That Mr. Brodrip have Leave to go into the Country for a Month.

Ordered, That Mr. Garway have Leave to go into the Country for a Month.

Prohibiting Trade with France.

Resolved, That the Bill for preventing the Importation of French Goods, be now read a Second time.

The Bill was read the Second time.

Resolved, That the Bill be committed to Mr. Leveson Gowre, Mr. Pitts, Col. Austen, Mr. Onslow, Mr. Roberts, Mr. Dolben, Sir John Cotton, Mr. Christy, Sir R. Hart, Mr. Hamden, Sir John Fowell, Sir Tho. Mompesson, Col. Birch, Sir Phil. Gell, Sir John Wyn, Mr. Palmes, Sir Robert Rich, Sir Jo. Turner, Sir Robert Howard, Mr. Rebow, Mr. Hawles, Mr. Hobby, Sir Patience Ward, Mr. Ellwell, Mr. Baldwyn, Sir John Doyley, Mr. Blowfeild, Mr. Fuller, Mr. Coningsby, Sir John Guise, Mr. Pollexfen, Sir Hen. Resolved, That an humble Address be made to his Majesty, by such Members of this House, as are of his Majesty's most honourable Privy Conncil, That, in all his Treaties with his Allies for carrying on the War with France, there be an Article inserted to prohibit all Trade with that Kingdom.

Rights of the Subject, and settling the Crown.

Ordered, That Mr. Carter, Sir Gilbert Clerke, Sir Phil. Gell, Sir Tho. Samwell, Mr. Leveson Gowre, Sir Walter Young, Mr. Arnold, Mr. Reynell, Mr. Thompson, Mr. Blake, Mr. Williams, Sir James Oxenden, Mr. Montague, Sir Rob. Rich, Sir John Doyley, Mr. Gwyn, Sir Tho. Mompesson, Mr. Coningsby, Sir Wm. Ellis, Mr. Ellwell, Sir. Cha. Blois, Sir John Brownlow, Mr. Fenwick, Mr. England, Mr. Bockland, Mr. Buckley, Sir John Cotton, Mr. Hobby, Sir Rich. Newdigate, and all the Members that are of the Long Robe, be added to the Committee to whom the Proviso proposed by the Lords to be made Part of the Bill for declaring the Rights and Liberties of the Subjects, and settling the Succession of the Crown, was referred: And the Committee is revived; and to meet this Afternoon, at Five of the Clock.

Exceptions in Bill of Indemnity.

Then the House proceeded in the further Consideration of the Heads of Exceptions in the Bill of Indemnity.

The Second Head of the Exceptions was read.

The Third Head of the Exceptions was read.

Resolved, That the Names of the Commissioners in the several Commissions for Constituting the Court for Ecclesiastical Causes be read.

They were accordingly all called over; and afterwards a Second time, one by one.

Resolved, Nemine contradicente, That George Lord Jeffryes be excepted out of the Bill of Indemnity upon this Head.

Resolved, Nemine contradicente, That Robert Earl of Sunderland be excepted out of the Bill of Indemnity upon this Head.

Resolved, That Nathan' Lord Bishop of Durham be excepted out of the Bill of Indemnity upon this Head.

Resolved, That Sir Edw. Herbert be excepted out of the Bill of Indemnity upon this Head.

Resolved, That Theophilus Earl of Huntington be excepted out of the Bill of Indemnity upon this Head.
