Prayers.

Lisle's Claim on Lord Jeffryes.

A PETITION of Anne Harfeild, Mary Browne, and Mabella Lisle, Daughters of the Lady Lisle, beheaded at Winchester was read; setting forth, That their Mother, 1° Jac. upon the Duke of Monmouth's Defeat, was seized on by a Troop of Horse; her House plundered, and Goods and Chattels taken from her, to some Thousands of Pounds Value: And afterwards she was imprisoned and indicted at Winchester, for harbouring one John Hicks, Clerk, as knowing him a Traitor, though, at that time, not indicted or convicted of any such Crime; and by a Verdict injuriously extorted by the late Lord Jeffryes, she was attainted, convicted, and executed for High Treason; whereby the Petitioners were left destitute of their Fortune, and forced to subsist on the Charity of their Relations; all the Real Estate being entailed on the Son, being Five hundred Pounds per Annum: And praying the Consideration of the House; and to order the Petitioners what they should think suitable to their Necessities, out of the Lord Jeffryes' Estate.

Ordered, That the said Petition do lie on the Table.

Arundell Building Grounds.

An ingrossed Bill, sent down from the Lords, intituled, An Act for building into Tenements the remaining Part of Arundell Grounds, as now inclosed, was read the first time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time.

Tucker's forfeited Estate.

A Petition of Reignald Tucker was read; setting forth, The Petitioner, being zealous for the Protestant Religion, suffered greatly for the same under King James the Second; and That upon Advantage taken against him as a Favourer of the late Duke of Monmouth: So that the Petitioner was tried at Wells in Somersetshire, in March168 6/7; and by Sir Francis Withins condemned do die; but reprieved by the said King, during his Pleasure; who gave the Petitioner's Estate, Real and Personal, unto Theophilus Oglethorpe, and kept him in Prison till December last: So that he, and his Four Children, were exposed to Miseries: And that the Petitioner's Wife, Katherine, instead of purchasing a Pardon for him, was, before his Trial, married to one Vaughan, by means of Sir Tho. Williams; for which the said King pardoned her: And praying the said Sentence and Attainder to be reversed; and a Divorce from his Wife a Vinculo Matrimonii; the Court of Doctors Commons granting Divorcements only a Thoro & Mensa.

Resolved, That it be referred to the Committee to whom the Matter of Mr. Speake's Petition is referred; to examine the Matters of Fact in the said Petition; and report the same to the House.

Naval Officers not qualifying.

A Bill to prevent the Forfeitures of Officers going to Sea, was read the First time.

Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time To-morrow Morning.

Suspending Habeas Corpus.

A Bill to impower his Majesty to apprehend and detain such Persons as he shall find just Cause to suspect are conspiring against the Government, was read the Second time.

Resolved, That a Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House.

Resolved, That the House do immediately resolve into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of the said Bill.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.
Mr. Hamden took the Chair of the Committee.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Hamden reports from the Committee of the whole House, That they had agreed upon some Amendments to be made to the Bill: Which he read in his Place, with the Coherence; and afterwards delivered the same in at the Clerk's Table; where the same were once read throughout; and a Second time, one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.

Ordered, That the Bill, so amended, be ingrossed.

Royal Assent to Bills.

A Message from his Majesty, by Sir Thomas Duppa, Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod;

Mr. Speaker,

The King commands this House to attend His Majesty in the House of Peers, immediately.

The House went up to attend his Majesty accordingly.

And being returned,

Mr. Speaker acquaints the House, That his Majesty had given the Royal Assent to the Bill for Exempting their Majesties Protestant Subjects from the Penalties of certain Laws: And the Bill for annulling, and making void, the Attainder of Alitia Lisle, Widow: And a Bill for the Sale or Leasing of a capital Messuage, late Mr. Secretary Coventrye's, in Piccadilly.

East India Company.

Ordered, That the Matter relating to the East India Company, upon the Petition of Martha Bolton, which was appointed to be this Day heard at the Bar of this House, be heard To-morrow Morning, at Ten of the Clock.

Ditto.

Ordered, That the Matter relating to the East India Company, upon the Petition of Dorothy Bowyer, which was appointed to be this Day heard at the Bar of the House, be heard To-morrow Morning, at Ten of the Clock.

Call of the House.

Ordered, That the Call of the House be adjourned till Monday Sevennight.

Bill of Indemnity.

Resolved, That the House do, upon Monday Morning next, proceed in the further Consideration of the Heads for the Bill of Indemnity.

And then the House adjourned till To-morrow Morning, Nine of the Clock.
