Berkeley's Estate.

A BILL, sent from the Lords, intituled, An Act for transferring the Interest of a Term of Years, in certain Manors and Lands, late of Sir Robert Berkeley, Knight, deceased, and Payment of Portions appointed to his Grand-children, was read the Second time.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill be committed to Sir Humfry Wynch, Sir John Pelham, Sir Thom. Allen, Sir Anth. Irby, Mr. Mallett, Sir Phil. Durham, Election of Members.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill to enable the County Palatime of Durham to send Knights and Burgesses to serve in Parliament, which was read a Second time on Saturday last, be committed to Lord Ogle, Sir Anth. Irby, Mr. Morrice, Sir Trevor Williams, Sir Charles Harbord, Mr. Newport, Sir Gilbert Gerrard, Sir Thom. Meeres, Mr. Tregonwell, Sir Tho. Allen, Sir Phil. Protestant Dissenters.

The House then resumed the adjourned Debate upon the Bill for Ease of Dissenters, Whether it should be given as an Instruction to the Committee for that Bill, to provide therein, that such as do dissent from the Church of England, should be uncapable of sitting as Members in this House.

And a Debate thereupon arising, whether the same were proper to be made Part of the Bill for suppressing the Growth of Poperty; or the Bill for regulating Elections; or, whether it were not more convenient to have a distinct Bill, to make Provision therein;

The Question being put, That it be given as an Instruction to the Committee, That such as do dissent from the Church of England, shall be uncapable to serve as Members of this House;

The House divided.

The Yeas go out.

And so it passed in the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That the Committee to which the Bill for Ease of his Majesty's Protestant Subjects, Dissenters in Matters of Religion from the Church of England, was committed, do sit this Afternoon, at Three of the Clock, in the Exchequer Chamber.

Resolved, &c. That a distinct Bill be prepared and brought in upon the Subject Matter of the Debate, as to the making such as do dissent from the Church of England, uncapable of sitting as Members of this House: And that it be recommended to Sir Thomas Meeres, to prepare and bring in a Bill.

Preventing Growth of Popery.

Sir Charles Harbord reports from the Committee to which the Bill for suppressing the Growth of Popery was committed, several Amendments agreed by the Committee to be made; and Three several Clauses agreed to be added to the Bill: Which he read in his Place; and afterwards delivered the same in at the Clerk's Table: Which said Amendments, and the two first Clauses, being twice read, were, with some Amendments made at the Table, upon the Question, severally agreed to.

The last Clause, relating to Privy Counsellors, was twice read; and, upon the Question, rejected.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill, with the Amendments agreed to, be ingrossed.

And then the House adjourned till To-morrow Morning, Nine of the Clock.
