Prayers.

Soldiers to exercise Trades.

A BILL for the enabling the Officers and Soldiers who have faithfully served his Majesty, and his Royal Father, in the late Rebellion, to exercise Trades, was read the First time.

Ordered, That the Bill be read the Second time on Tuesday Morning.

Bedford Level.

Ordered, That the House will sit this Afternoon, for the Reading and Dispatch of the ingrossed Bill concerning Bedford Level.

D. of York's Revenue.

Mr. Seymour reports from the Committee to which the Proviso touching such as had Patents for selling Wine by Retale was committed, That the Committee had perused the Proviso; and made two Amendments thereto, by adding the Word "or," in the * Line of the Proviso; and by adding the Words "Virtue, and," in the * Line of the Proviso: Which Amendments were twice read; and agreed to.

The Question being put, That there be a Restriction, as to the original Patentees, their Heirs, Executors, and Administrators only;

It passed in the Negative.

The Question being put, That the Proviso, with the Amendments agreed to, be made Part of the Bill:

It was resolved in the Affirmative.

Resolved, That the Bill, with the Proviso and Amendments agreed to, be ingrossed.

Privilege-Charge against Sir R. Temple.

Mr. Vaughan reports, That, according to the Order of this House, he, and Mr. Garraway, had attended the Earl of Bristoll; and had acquainted him with the Order of this House; and with the Transcript of so much of his Majesty's Message, as did relate to the Message which he did receive from Sir Richard Temple: And that his Lordship did render his most humble and hearty Thanks to this House, That, in such an important Matter, and so much concerning his Honour, they did signify their Desires to him in so obliging a Manner: But, in regard the Thing was of so great Consequence, partly relating to this Majesty, and also concerning his own Honour, and the Reputation of a Member of this House, he could not intrust any other Person to deliver his Answer, for Fear of Mistakes which might thereby happen; and because he might probably, if present, clear any Matter which might further accrue: And, therefore, that he might give full Satisfaction to so illustrious a Representative of his Country, he desired a Day might be prefixed, when he might be admitted to give an Account to the House, in Person, concerning this Matter: And that he would make his Address to the Lords, that he might be permitted so to do.

Resolved, &c. That Wednesday next be appointed for the Earl of Bristoll personally to give in his Answer to the House, in the Matter concerning Sir Richard Temple, according to his Lordship's Desire: And that Mr. Vaughan, or Mr. Garraway, or either of them, do acquaint him with this Vote.

Preventing Popery, &c.

The ingrossed Bill to prevent the Growth of Popery ....

Ordered, That the Words "Twenty-ninth of September" be inserted, in the stead of the "Twenty-fourth of June."

Which was done; and thrice read; and agreed to.

Ordered, That the Word "Fourteen" be inserted, instead of the Word "Sixteen."

Which was done; and thrice read; and agreed to.

The Question being put, That the Bill do pass;

It was resolved in the Affirmative: And that the Title shall be, An Act to prevent the Growth of Popery.

And Mr. Secretary Morrice is to carry up the Bill to the Lords for their Concurrence.

Conventicles &c.

Ordered, That the Bill against Conventicles be read or Tuesday Morning at Ten of the Clock.

Lindsey Level.

Ordered, That the Report of the Bill for the Draining of Lindsey Level be heard on Thursday Morning next.

And then the House adjourns till Two of the Clock in the Afternoon.

Elizabeth Jacob and Margarett Jacob did, this Day, take the Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy, in order to their Naturalization.

Relief from Act of Uniformity.

A Bill for the Relief of such Persons who, by reason of their Absence beyond the Seas, Imprisonment, Sickness, or Inadvertency, were hindred from subscribing the Declaration in the Act of Uniformity, was read the Second time.

Resolved, &c. That the said Bill be committed to Mr. Crouch, Mr. Westphaling, Colonel Kirkby, Mr. Pepis, Mr. Milward, Sir Robert Holt, Mr. Ashburnham, Lord Richardson, Mr. Coventry, Sir Hen. North, Sir Charles Cottrell, Sir Tho. Widdrington, Sir Lanc. Lake, Sir Wm. Compton, Sir Anthony Irby, Sir Wm. Lowther, Sir Henry Newton, Sir Tho. Doleman, Mr. Coventry, Sir Ralph Hare, Mr. Kent, Mr. Lowther, Sir Courtney Poole, Sir Charles Harbord, Sir Tho. Lee, Colonel Williams, Sir Richard Oately, Mr. Tayler, Sir Tho. Wendy, Mr. Whorwood: And they are to meet in the Speaker's Chamber, on Tuesday next, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon: And to send for Persons, Papers, and Records.

Bedford Level.

An ingrossed Bill for settling the Draining of the Great Level of the Fens, called Bedford Level, was read.

Some Amendments were ordered to be made, and Blanks filled up, as to the Names of Commissioners.

Which was done accordingly at the Table; and the same thrice read; and agreed to.

Resolved, That these Words, "which, for Nonpayment, are, by virtue of this Act, to be levied by Sale of the Lands," be inserted, in the Fifteenth Line of the Tenth Press of the Bill.

Resolved, &c. That the Word "made" be added, after the Word "be," in the Two-and-thirtieth Line of the One-and-twentieth Press.

Which was done; and thrice read; and agreed to.

Resolved, &c. That these Words, "and hold such Proportion in Severalty at all Times of the Year," be inserted, in the * Line of the * Press.

Which was done; and thrice read; and agreed to.

A Proviso, on the Behalf of Mr. Thomas Chicheley, was thrice read:

Resolved, &c. That the said Proviso be agreed to, and made Part of the Bill.

Another Proviso, on the Behalf of Mr. Offley, was once read:

It passed in the Negative.

Another Proviso, concerning the Bank on the North Side of Wisbitch, was read:

It passed in the Negative.

Another Proviso, touching Changing of Allotments, was read twice:

A Proviso against Pulling down of Banks was read the First time:

The Question being put, That these Words, "within or without the Level, unless there be some Agreement to the contrary," be inserted into the Bill;

It was resolved in the Affirmative.

Another Proviso, for saving an Act of 4° Jac. was thrice read.

Resolved, That the said Proviso be made Part of the Bill.

Resolved, That the said Bill do pass: And that the Title shall be, An Act for settling the Draining of the Great Level of the Fens, called Bedford Level.
