Briscoe's Portion.
Amendments, sent from the Lords, to an ingrossed Bill to enable Sir John Drake, and others, to sell Lands, for the Payment of the Portion of Ellen Briscoe, and a Proviso to be added to the Bill, were this Day twice read; and, upon the Question, severally agreed to.

Importing Madder.
Resolved, &c. That a Committee be appointed to inspect the Act for the Importation of Madder, pure and unmixt; viz. Mr. Jones, Sir Geo. Ryve, Mr. Clifford, Sir Wm. Doyley, Sir Wm. Tompson, Mr. Knight, Mr. Jolly, Sir John Frederick, Sir Geo. Downing, Sir Theo. Biddolph, Colonel Robinson, Sir Edm. Peirse, Colonel Reames, Mr. Street, Sir Tho. Strickland, Mr. Scawen, Dr. Burwell, Mr. Jay, Mr. Sprye, Mr. Yorke, Mr. Whorwood, Sir Robert Brooke, Sir Nich. Crown Revenue.
Sir Charles Harbord reports from the Committee appointed to inspect several Branches of his Majesty's Revenue, That, upon Consideration, and long Debate of the Business touching the Newcastle Coals; and the Duty of Twelve pence per Chaldron upon the Inland Rent, whereof Sir Jeremy Whitchcott Baronet claimeth one Third Part, by virtue of some Grant thereof, made to the Lord Viscount Mordant, Sir Thomas Peyton, and himself (as he pretends), by his Majesty at Bruxells, in or about February next before his Majesty's happy Return, at the Rent of One thousand Eight hundred Thirty-six Pounds Twelve Shillings per Annum; which Grant was not produced, nor in the said Sir Jeremy's Hands, as he pretended (there being then a former Grant in being, which ended at Christmas 1660); the Opinion of the Committee, That this Revenue is well worth Eight thousand Pounds per Annum; and is a growing Revenue.
Which Report he delivered in at the Clerk's Table: And the same was twice read.
Resolved, &c. That this House doth agree with the Committee in the Matter reported.
Ordered, That it be referred to the same Committee to send for the Patent, or the Exemplification of it, whereby the Coal Farm of Newcastle is granted; and to inspect the same; and report the Matter, with their Opinions thereupon, to the House.
Ministers Maintenance.
Ordered, That the Matter upon the Bill for Increase of the Maintenance of Ministers, in Cities, Towns Corporate, and Market Towns, be adjourned, and resumed To-morrow Morning.

Registry of Deeds, &c.
A Bill for constituting a Registry for registering Deeds and Conveyances, was this Day read the First time.
The Question being propounded, Whether this Bill for constituting a Registry is regularly brought in;
The Question being put, That this Question be now put;
It was resolved in the Affirmative.
And the main Question being put, Whether this Bill for constituting a Registry is regularly brought in;
It passed in the Negative.
Ordered, That these Reasons following, Why the Bill did not come in regularly, be expressed in the Journal; viz.
Because the Bill, upon the Reading, does appear to tend towards the Repeal of divers Laws now in Force; and to lay a Charge on the People; and was brought in, without first asking the Leave of the House.
Fraudulent Conveyances.
Resolved, &c. That a Committee be appointed to prepare and bring in a Bill to prevent fraudulent Conveyances and Assurances; viz. Mr. Solicitor General, Sir John Keeling, Mr. Waller, Sir Job. Charlton, Sir John Maynard, Sir Fra. Goodrick, Mr. Yorke, Sir John Talbot, Mr. Pryn, Sir John Duncombe, Mr. Hen. Coventry, Sir Geo. Courthop, Mr. Nicholas, Mr. John Vaughan, Sir Rich. Temple, Mr. Clifford, Colonel Birch, Mr. Thurland, Mr. Whorwood, Mr. Street, Sir Thomas Meres, Mr. Seymour, Sir Robert Atkyns, Mr. Wm. Coventry, Sir Wm. Doyley, or any Three of them: And it is recommended to them, to expedite and bring in the Bill against Thisday-sevennight: And Mr. Vaughan is desired to take care thereof: And it is also referred to the said Committee to inquire into the Abuses in the Keeping and Recording of Fines, Statutes, Judgments, Recognizances, or Deeds; and to propose such Expedients for the orderly Calendering, Recording, and Keeping thereof, and for the facilitating of Searches, as they shall find necessary: And they are to meet in the Speaker's Chamber, Tomorrow in the Afternoon at Two of the Clock: And to send for Persons, Papers, and Records.
