JOHN Van Wachtendonck did this Day take the Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy, before Mr. Speaker, at the Clerk's Table, in order to his being naturalized.

Fish Spawn.

A Bill to preserve the Spawn of Fish, and Fishing in fresh Rivers, was this Day read the First time.

Resolved, &c. That this Bill be read again the Second time, on Wednesday next.

Newport's Estate.

Mr. Crouch reports from the Committee to which the Bill to make void a Fine whereby the Title of Mr. Newport to certain Lands and Houses is barred, was committed, That the Committee had summoned all Persons concerned: And that one Nuthall, who pretends Title to the Lands and Houses, as also Mr. Newport, were, by Counsel, several times heard what they could offer on either Side, in relation to their respective Claims: And did state the whole Matter of Fact, as it did appear to the Committee; and their Opinion, That Mr. Newport had made out a good Title, if the Fine were not set up to bar him: But that the Desire of the Committee was, in Respect the Matter did relate to a Fine, to have the Opinion of the House therein, whether they should proceed upon the Bill.

Resolved, &c. That the Committee do proceed to report the Bill to the House.

Preventing Popery, &c.

Ordered, That the Committee to which the Bill to prevent the Growth of Popery was committed, have Leave to sit this Afternoon, notwithstanding the Order for the Sitting of the Committee of Trade.

Crown Revenue.

The House then resolved itself into a Committee of the whole House, to proceed in the Matter of his Majesty's Revenue.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.

Sir Robert Atkyns took the Chair of the Committee.

Mr. Speaker re-assumed the Chair.

Sir Robert Atkyns reports from the Committee, That they had made some further Progress in his Majesty's Revenue: And that the Committee are of Opinion, That the House would impower the Sub Committee appointed to inspect That Branch of his Majesty's Revenue, arising by Hearths and Chimnies, to peruse the Act for raising the same; and to consider wherein it may be defective; and how it may be supplied; and to report the same.

Resolved, &c. That the Sub Committee appointed to inspect That Branch of his Majesty's Revenue arising by Hearths and Chimnies, be a Committee of the House: Who have Power to peruse the Act for raising of a Revenue by Hearths and Chimnies; and to consider of the Defects therein; and how they may be supplied; and to report the same to the House: And all Members that come to the said Committee, are to have Voices thereat.

Mr. Speaker, The Lords have commanded us to acquaint you, That they received a Message from his Majesty, That he may be attended by the Members of both Houses, this Afternoon at Six of the Clock: And that the Lord Chamberlain would be then ready in the Gallery, at Whitehall, to bring them to his Majesty.

Excise.

Resolved, &c. That the Committee to whom it is referred to examine the Excise, be impowered to receive Petitions and Proposals for the Improvement or Regulation of that Revenue.
