Martial Law.

Sir William Coventry reports from the Committee to which the Bill for enlarging the Power of the Law Martial, in his Majesty's Fleet, was committed, several Amendments to the said Bill: Which he read, with the Coherence, in his Place; and after delivered the same in at the Clerk's Table.

And the Amendments being twice read; and, upon the Question, severally agreed to;

A Proviso was tendered to be added to the Bill: Which was twice read.

The Question being put, That the Bill, with the Amendments agreed to, be ingrossed;

It passed in the Negative.

Message from the King-Lyndsey Level.

Mr. Secretary Morice reports, That he had a Message to deliver from his Majesty, in Answer to an Address made by this House to his Majesty at the last Session: Which, being in Writing, he delivered to Mr. Speaker: Which was as followeth:

WHERE AS, by an Order, of the Nineteenth of May last, Our House of Commons did humbly recommend it unto Us, to take care for the Preservation of the Level of the Fens, called Lyndsey Level; and did make it their humble Request unto Us, to give Ourself the Trouble of calling all Parties concerned before Us, and of hearing their several Claims and Interests: We did accordingly cause Summons to be given to all Parties, for their Appearance at Our Council Board: Where We heard what was alledged by each Party: And, conceiving that the Matters in Difference might be brought to some Accommodation, We required a Committee of Our Council to endeavour it: By whose Report We are given to understand, that, through the Averseness of some Persons concerned, nothing hath been effected: Wherefore, out of Our Desire that so good and beneficial a Work may not fall to the Ground, We have thought fit to return it back into your Hands; with Our special Recommendation, That Our House of Commons take speedy and effectual Care to put the said Business into such a Way, that the foresaid Level may not be destroyed, so great Charges and Expences cast away, nor the Commonwealth receive such a Damage as is likely otherwise to ensue.

And the same being read;

A Bill was delivered in for the Draining of the Level of the Fens in Lincolneshire, called Lyndsey Level.

Ordered, That the Bill for Draining of the Level of the Fens, called Lyndsey Level, be read on Thursday next.

Priests and Jesuits.

Resolved, &c. That his Majesty, having most graciously declared his Zeal for the Prevention of the Growth of Popery, be humbly desired to issue out his Proclamation, to command all Jesuits, and all English, Irish, and Scotch Popish Priests, and all such other Priests as have taken Orders from the See of Rome, or by Authority thereof (except such Foreign Jesuits or Priests, as, by Contract of Marriage, are to attend the Person of either of the Queens, or, by the Law of Nations, to attend Foreign Ambassadors), to depart this Kingdom by a Day.

Resolved, &c. That the Concurrence of the Lords be desired to this Vote.
