Prayers.

Collectors of Revenue.

AMENDMENTS, sent from the Lords, to the Bill touching Collectors, were twice read; and agreed; and read the Third time.

Resolved, That the Bill be amended accordingly, and carried up to the Lords.

Regulating the Press.

Ordered, That these Persons following be added to the Committee to which the Bill for regulating the Press is committed; viz. Sir Robert Atkyns, Sir Hen. Puckering.

Militia.

Serjeant Charlton reports several Amendments, from the Conference had with the Lords, upon the Bill for the Militia.

The First Amendments being to the Thirtieth and Thirty-second Lines of the First Skin were twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed to.

Resolved, That, the Word "formerly," being omitted, these Words be added as an Expedient to the Amendment in the Forty-fifth Line of the Second Skin, after "shall be reimbursed the said Month's Pay; and so from time to time the Month's Pay by him or them last before."

The next Amendment to the Twenty-ninth and Thirtieth Line of the Third Skin, being, that the Lords do adhere to the Power of the finding Persons charged, &c. should be in the Lieutenant alone; was twice read;

The Question being put, To agree with the Lords;

It passed in the Negative.

The next Amendment to the Fifty-second Line, being, to agree to the Amendment made by this House, upon Condition to add some Words to the Tenth Line of the Amendment of this House; viz. after the Word "or," "other Direction from his Majesty, and either Way," was twice read.

The Question being put, To agree to the adding the Words "other Direction from his Majesty;"

It was resolved in the Affirmative.

The Question being put, To agree to the Words "and either Way;"

It passed in the Negative.

The Question being put, To put in the Word "or," instead of "and either Way;"

It was resolved in the Affirmative.-

Bills from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Wm. Child and Sir Thomas Escourt;

Mr. Speaker, the Lords have returned you Two Bills * * * *; with some Amendments: To which they desire the Concurrence of this House.-

The Amendment to the Thirtieth Line of the Fourth Skin was twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed to.

The Amendment to the Forty-eighth Line of the Sixth Skin was twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed to.

The last Expedient, sent from the Lords, being to make some Alteration in their own Proviso, and to omit the other Two Provisoes, was twice read.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to Mr. Vaughan, Mr. Solicitor General, Sir Thomas Meres, Serjeant Charlton, Sir Robert Atkyns, Colonel Fretchrile, Sir Tho. Gower, Mr. Pryn, Sir Tho. Strickland, Sir Charles Harbord, Mr. Clifford, and Sir Phillip Warwick, or any Three of them, to prepare and bring in an Expedient, against the Afternoon, upon the present Debate which did arise upon the Expedient, sent from the Lords, by way of Alteration to their own Proviso, to the Bill for ordering the Forces of this Kingdom.

And then the House adjourned till this Afternoon, Two of the Clock.

Sheriffs Accounts.

THE Amendments, sent from the Lords, to the Bill concerning Sheriffs, were read the First time.

The First Amendment, being to the Forty-seventh Line of the First Skin, was read the Second time; and, upon the Question, agreed to.

The Second Amendment, being, to add the Proviso, was read the Second time.

And the Proviso being twice read;

An additional Clause on the Behalf of the King's Remembrancer of the Exchequer, was tendered to be added after the Word "Exchequer," in the Lords Proviso: Which was twice read.

Resolved, &c. That the First Paragraph of the Proviso, ending with the Word "Exchequer," be agreed to.

Resolved, That the additional Clause, as to his Majesty's Remembrancer, be agreed to be inserted after the Word "Exchequer."

The last Paragraph, as to the Time of the Continuance of the Act, was read the Third time.

Resolved, &c. That the Continuance shall be to the End of the First Session of the next Parliament, instead of "to the End of the next Session of this Parliament."

Resolved, That Sir John Duncomb do desire a Conference with the Lords, upon the Bill for Sheriffs; and the Amendments made by this House to the Lords Amendments.

Militia.

Sir Heneage Finch, his Majesty's Solicitor General, reports from the Committee which were appointed to prepare and bring in an Expedient to the Proviso, sent from the Lords, by way of Expedient, as to assessing the Lords upon the Bill for Militia: Which being in Writing, was twice read.

Resolved, &c. That the Word "Lord," be inserted before the Word "Chancellor."

Resolved, That these Words, "not relating to the Monthly Tax," be inserted into the Expedient.

Resolved, That the Words "Rules and" be inserted before the Word "Proportions."

Resolved, That the Words "some of them" be inserted.

Which were all inserted accordingly.

Resolved, That the said Expedient, so amended, be agreed to.

Ordered, That Colonel Fretchvile do desire a present free Conference with the Lords, upon the Subject Matter of the last Free Conference upon the Bill for the Militia.

Ordered, That Colonel Fretchvile be added to such as are appointed to manage the Conference to be had with the Lords, upon the several Bills of Militia; for the Poor; for restoring Impropriations; for distributing Sixty thousand Pounds amongst the Cavaliers; and for Sheriffs.

Relief of Loyalists.

Sir Thomas Meres reports, from the free Conference, upon the Bill for distributing the Sixty thousand Pounds amongst the Cavaliers, That the Lords had agreed to the Amendments made by this House, only with the Addition of a Proviso.

Custom Fees.

Ordered, That the Report of the Fees of the Officers belonging to the Customs be made To-morrow Morning.

Highways.

Ordered, That the Amendments to the Bill for Highways be read To-morrow Morning.

Northern Borders.

The Amendments to the Bill to prevent Theft in the Northern Borders of this Kingdom were twice read; and, upon the Question, agreed to.

The Proviso, to be added by way of Amendment, was twice read.

The Question being put, To agree to That Proviso;

It passed in the Negative.

Ordered, That Colonel Fretchvile do desire a Conference with the Lords upon the Bill, and Amendments thereto, for Prevention of Theft in the Northern Borders of this Kingdom.

Public Accomptants.

The Amendments, sent from the Lords, to the Bill concerning Accompts, not pardoned by the Act of Oblivion, were read the First time.

The First Amendments, being to the First Line, was read the Second time.

The Question being put, To agree to That Amendment;

It passed in the Negative.

The next Amendment, to the Seventeenth Line, was read the Second time; and, upon the Question, agreed to.

The Amendments to the Twenty-second Line, Thirtieth, Thirty-second, and Thirty-third Lines, were read the Second time; and, upon the Question, severally agreed to.

The Amendment to the Thirty-fourth Line, concerning Sureties, was read the Second time.

The Question being put, To agree to that Amendment;

It passed in the Negative.

The rest of the Amendments were read the Second time; and, upon the Question, agreed to.

Ordered, That Colonel Fretchvile do desire a Conference with the Lords upon this Bill touching Accompts not pardoned.

Relief of Loyalists.

The Proviso, sent from the Lords, to the Bill for distributing the Sixty thousand Pounds amongst the Cavaliers, was twice read.

Resolved, That the same be committed to Lord Bruce, Lord Herbert, Sir Phil. Warwick, Colonel Kirkby, Sir Thomas Meres, Mr. Pryn, Mr. Mountague, Dr. Berkinhead, or any Three of them.

Officers of the House.

A Petition of the Officers attending this House was read.

Ordered, That every Knight of the Shire, now present in Town, do give, amongst the Servants of the House of Commons, the Sum of Ten Shillings: And every Citizen, Burgess, or Baron, of any Cinque Port, now in Town, the Sum of Five Shillings: And, that every Knight, Citizen, Burgess, or Baron, of any Cinque Port, that is absent, do give double the Sums of Ten Shillings, and Five Shillings, respectively, amongst the said Servants: And that if any of the Members that are present do not pay in their Money before Tuesday Morning, such as do fail shall be taken as absent; and pay double the Sums beforementioned, respectively.

And the said Money is to be paid in to Mr. Sharpe, Deputy to the Clerk of this House; and is to be distributed amongst the Servants by Mr. Speaker.

Regulating the Press.

Ordered, That the Committee to which the Bill for regulating the Press was committed, do sit this Evening: And the Members to which the Bill for the publick Bills was formerly committed, are added to That Committee.
