Saturday, August 4th, 1660.

Prayers.

Leave of Absence.

ORDERED, That Mr. Dennis, a Member of this House, have Leave to go into the Country.

Assessment.

Resolved, That Serjeant Wilde do forthwith deliver up to Sir Wm. Lewis, a Member of this House, a Discharge remaining in his Hands, which was heretofore given to Sir John Lenthall, Marshal of the King's Bench, by John Williams, Wm. Jones, Thomas Williams, John Morgan, * * Hugh Thomas, Commissioners for an Assessment levied in the County of Brecon for Five hundred Eighty-eight Pounds, Part of the said Assessment received by Thomas Games, then a Prisoner in the Custody of the said Marshall for the said Sum; which Release did after come to the Hands of the said Serjeant Wilde, as Chairman of a Committee in one of the late Conventions, upon a Complaint to the said Committee relating to the said Debt; to the Intent Sir Wm. Lewis may make use thereof, as shall be meet for the Service of the said County.

Contraband Goods.

Ordered, That the Serjeant at Arms attending this House, or his Deputy, do forthwith seize and secure certain Goods of Value, which, as the House is informed, being lately imported, were privately conveyed up into a Creek near Bow, and lodged at a Merchant's House there, upon Design to defeat his Majesty of the Custom; and that he summon the Merchant at whose House they are lodged, to attend a Committee of this House, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in Mr. Speaker's Chamber.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for his Majesty's Revenue to examine this Business, and report the Fact to this House.

Dallison's Estate.

A Bill for enabling Sir Robert Dallison to sell Lands for Payments of Debts, was this Day read the First time.

Ordered, That this Bill be read the Second time on Wednesday next.

Reducing Interest.

A Bill for reducing the Interest of Money lent, to Six per Cent. for a Year, was read the First time.

Ordered, That this Bill be read the Second time on Wednesday next.

Haberdashers Company.

A Bill for incorporating the Master and Wardens of the Company of Haberdashers, London, to be Governors of the Free School and Alms Houses in Newport in the County of Salop, of the Foundation of Wm. Adams, and for settling of Lands and Possessions on them for Maintenance thereof, and other charitable Uses, was this Day read the First time.

Ordered, That this Bill be read the Second time on Tuesday next.

Army Commissioners.

Colonel King reports Amendments to the Bill for appointing a Committee for the Army, and Treasurers at War; which he first read in his Place, and were, after, twice read by the Clerk; and, upon the Question, agreed unto; and ordered to be ingrossed.

Wards and Liveries.

The House this Day resumed the Debate upon the Bill for taking away the Court of Wards, and Liveries, and Tenures in Capite, and by Knight's Service.

Resolved, That it be referred to a select Committee to take Consideration upon the whole Debate of this House, of all Rates, and what else shall be offered to them; and thereupon to apportion a Rate upon the several Counties as equally and indifferently as they possibly can, according to the Trust reposed in them by this House, for the raising of One hundred thousand Pounds per Ann. to be settled on his Majesty, in Compensation for Wardships, and Liveries, and the Court of Wards; and to report the same to the House.

Resolved, That the Members of this House, who are of his Majesty's Privy Council, be the said Committee: And they are to meet at Three of the Clock this Afternoon, in the Speaker's Chamber.
