Volunteers.

AN Act for the Encouragement and Indemuity of such Persons as voluntarily engage themselves in the Service of the Parliament, in this Time of common Danger, was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed unto Major General Harrison, Sir Henry Vane, Major Salway, Sir Henry Mildmay, Alderman Allen, Colonel Jones, Sir Thomas Jervois, Mr. Strickland, Sir John Hippisley, Colonel Fielder, Mr. Leman, Sir John Bourchier, Colonel Purefoy, Colonel Stapley, Colonel Morley, Sir James Harrington, Mr. Scott, Mr. Bond, Mr. Carew, Sir Richard Lucy, Mr. Hodges, Mr. Edwards, Mr. Hollowes, Sir Wm. Strickland; or any Five of them: And this Committee are to meet in the Speaker's Chamber, at Two of the Clock this Afternoon: And all that come to have Voices: And this Committee have Power to present Names for the Committee in the Bill: And Major General Harrison is to take care of it.

Door shut.

Resolved, That the Door be shut until Twelve of Clock.

Aldermen of Hull.

Resolved, That * Ramsden be discharged of and from the Office and Place of Alderman of the Town of Kingston upon Hull; and that another be appointed in his Place.

Resolved, That Francis Dewick be, and is hereby, nominated and appointed Alderman of the Town of Kingston upon Hull, in the place of the said * Ramsden: With all the Privileges and Advantages of an Alderman there, according to the Charter: And

It is Ordered, That the Mayor of the said Town, or his Deputy, be authorized or required to administer, unto the said Francis Dewick, the Oath of Alderman, accordingly.

Resolved, That John Key be, and is hereby, nominated and appointed Alderman of the Town of Kingston upon Hull, in the Place and stead of John Jefferson, deceased, with all the Privileges and Advantages of an Alderman there, according to the Charter: And that the Mayor of the said Town, or his Deputy, be authorized and required to administer, unto the said John Key, his Oath of Alderman there, accordingly.

Resolved, That the Parliament doth declare, That this being done at this Time, shall not be in Prejudice to the Charter of the said Town of Kingston upon Hull for the future, nor drawn into Precedent to the Disadvantage of the said Town.

Concealed Property.

Resolved, That the Committee of the Navy have Power to give Warrant to search in any House, Wall, or Ground, for any Money or Goods, heretofore belonging to the late Bishop of Canterbury, which they shall receive Information of from John Robinson, Merchant; provided that such Search be made in the Presence of one or more of the said Committee: And that such Damages, as shall be occasioned by the breaking down of any Wall, or Digging up of any Ground, be forthwith made good at the Charge of the said John Robinson: And that the said Committee have hereby Power to examine upon Oath: And that this Power shall continue until the First Day of October next, and no longer.

Drunkenness.

Ordered, That the Act against Drunkenness be read on Friday Morning next, the first Business.

Maj. Chedle.

A Certificate from Mr. Littleton, and Mr. Bulstrode, from Bala, 23 Augusti 1650, of the Matter of Fact touching the Trial of Major Chedle, for murdering Mr. Richard Bulkley, was this Day read.

The Question being put, That the Reprieve of Major Chedle be continued until the next Assizes;

The House was divided.

The Engagement.

Ordered, That the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal of England do consider, how the Engagement may be tendered to all Persons in any Cities, Towns, or Counties, within England or Wales, who are willing to take the Engagement: And that the said Lords Commissioners be authorized and required to nominate and appoint fit Persons, in the several Counties, Cities, Towns, or Places, to take such Subscriptions, in such sort as they had formerly Power to do by the Act, the Time thereby limited being elapsed; and to cause Returns to be made thereof, according to the said Act, by such Times as they shall appoint.

Fee-farm Rents.

The House this Day resumed the Debate upon the Proposition touching raising Money, by way of Loan, upon the Security of the Fee-farm Rents.

Resolved, That this Proposition be re-committed to the same Committee: And Colonel Morley is added to that Committee: And all that come, to have Voices: And this Committee is to meet To-morrow in the Afternoon, in the Speaker's Chamber; and so de die in diem; and to bring in their Report on Tuesday next, the first Business.

Infunts Estates.

Ordered, That, on the Second Day of October next, the Parliament do take into Consideration, how Infants, and their Estates, may be preserved during their Infancy.

Hertford, &c. Circuit.

Ordered, That the Lords Commissioners of the Great Seal of England be, and are hereby, impowered and authorized to appointed one or more Judges to perfect the Circuit in the Counties of Hertford and Essex; and to issue Commissions for that Purpose.

Sheriff of Surrey.

Resolved, That William Hynde, of Walworth, in the County of Surrey, be, and is hereby, nominated and appointed to be High Sheriff of the said County of Surrey for the Remainder of this Year, and the Year ensuing: And that the Lords Commissioners of the Great Seal of England do issue forth a Commission under the said Great Seal for him to be Sheriff, accordingly.

The House, according to former Order, adjourned itself till Tuesday Morning next, Eight of Clock.
