Strickland thanked.
RESOLVED, That the Thanks of this House be given unto Mr. Walter Strickland, for his good Service done for this Commonwealth.
Mr. Speaker did give Mr. Strickland the Thanks of this House, accordingly.
Door shut.
Resolved, That the Door be shut till Twelve of the Clock.
Trade with Scotland.
Mr. Corbett reports from the Committee appointed Yesterday to withdraw, Amendments to the Bill inhibiting Trade and Traffick with Scotland: Which were twice read.
Resolved, That these Words; viz. "Court Martial;" be put out of this Bill, in all the Places where the same is mentioned in the Bill.
A Proviso was tendered to the said Bill, "That this Act, or any thing therein contained, shall not extend to prejudice, infringe, or make void, any Power or Authority which the Lord General, or his Court Martial, may exercise by the Articles of War agreed on and allowed by Parliament:" Which was read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, assented unto.
The Question being put, That this Act be ingrossed;
It passed with the Negative.
And the said Act, being put to the Question, passed. And.
It is Ordered, That the said Act be forthwith printed and published: And it is referred to the Council of State to see the said Act published with Beat of Drum, and Sound of Trumpet, accordingly.
Ordered, That the Lords Commissioners of the Great Seal do issue forth a Writ of Certiorari to the Clerk of the Parliament, to transmit this Act into the Chancery: And that the Lords Commissioners do issue out their Writs to the respective Sheriffs of the several Counties within this Commonwealth, to publish the said Act in the said several Counties, according to the Direction of the said Act.
Witnesses in Cases of Bribery
The Question being propounded, That, in case of Bribery by any Member of this House, such Witness or Witnesses as shall give Testimony, shall not be damnified by reason of such Testimony as he or they shall so give, except in case of Practice or Perjury;
The Question being put, That this Question be now put;
It passed with the Affirmative.
And the main Question being put;
It was Resolved, by the Parliament, That, in case of Bribery by any Members of this House, such Witness or Witnesses as shall give Testimony, shall not be damnified by reason of such Testimony as he or they shall so give, except in case of Practice or Perjury.
Resolved, That any Committee that are to examine any Matter of Bribery, shall have Power to examine Witnesses upon Oath.
The House, according to former Order, adjourned itself until Tuesday Morning next, at Eight of Clock.
